Oh wow, he outright claims to to better than both Carl Barks and Bill Tytla :story:
I remember a blog entry of his when he said (paraphrasing here) that Frank Thomas could occasionally do an interesting pose, but that more often than not, it just led to more boring drawings. John K is almost fascinatingly conceited.

Very much so. I'm not sure why John K. calls modern animation garbage, but praises something as stiff and on-model as Hanna-Barbera animated shows.

He's a big fan of Rocket Robin Hood, I believe.

EDIT: I just learned that as of last month, John is back in L.A. and is living in the Valley area.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if John K. were one of the few people in the industry who genuinely liked Scrappy Doo. He does seem like the kind of character who could have come from a late 50s-early 60s Hanna Barbara production, and I also heard that Joe Barbara directly based him off Henry Hawk.

And for the record, Scrappy probably doesnt deserve all the hate that he gets from autistic Scooby fans. He was still a much better character than Scooby Dum ever was. I was actually kind of offended when they made him the villain in the first movie, to the point where I like to pretend that Monsters Unleashed came out in 02 instead.

John is not a fan of Scooby-Doo.

He views it as the moment when hippies and dykes took over the cartoon industry and ensured it wouldn't be fun for another two decades.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I just remembered that most of the Scrappy seasons were showran by Tom Ruegger, and considering what John said about Animaniacs...

I'm still waiting to hear Bakshis input on this whole thing, last I heard he wasnt happy about Johns scam-raiser (meanwhile Bakshi was able to complete his own and lets people watch it online for free).

The Buzzfeed writer actually called Bakshi, and upon hearing what the article was going to be about, he just hung up on her.

It is well known Bakshi despises JK, whatever "happy" face he puts on for show/interviews.

He's got his own elephant graveyard in his closet (no pedo stuff) so he's probably just hoping he'll die before the "REAL" Bakshi story comes out.

No need to wait, given his time in New York I feel confident that many of the absurd situations in his films were based on real incidents, albeit loosely. Even then, hes pretty normal compared to what gets hired on TV these days.

Same here, stylistically its not bad if not very samey, but Jay ward did "limited animation" much better, heck much of early anime could be considered "limited" too, and it easily had much better camera work/art than anything Hanna Barbara at the time (it wasnt just left-right camera shots back to back).

The clearing shit out of the toilet before Bakshi's date comes over bit in "Firedogs 2" was based on a real story. Only as it originally happened, it was a black hooker coming over to bang Ralph. (Ralph loves banging black women.) Funny how John K. didn't go for the chance to depict one of those big lipped "darkies" he's so fond of.

Yeah. That's why Heavy Traffic is his best film - because it's honest, that's who he is: a Jewish white cartoonist who wants to fuck black women.

John K.'s most autobiographical film is "Ren Seeks Help" - though the ending is a lie, he's too much of a chickenshit to actually kill someone.

Like what? So he has a black BBW fetish. That's practically normie these days. At least they're adults.

Now that you're back, mind answering two questions?

How racist is John?

And what was the real deal with the Games Animation guys and the DVDs?

The only things I could see people getting angry at is Bakshi being a hardass when it came to his films, but even still Bakshi was not as bad as some of his contemporaries or predecessors.

Yeah I wasn't condemning that. But it's more like his mob connections, shit he's done over the years as far as embezzlement, etc. that he doesn't want laid out in public while he's still kicking.

He's brazenly proud that he's a fucking lunatic, so there isn't much to expose. He does cry over the fact that one of his grandkids may see "Firedogs 2" some day and see that all-too-realistic depiction of him.

Very racist.

JK did ask Jim Gomez to do commentary but he wouldn't do it since he wouldn't get paid for his time.
The DVD producers were pretty ignorant about the show's production (and the show, just take a look at all the shit wrong with the DVDs' presentation) and didn't realize John K. and his circlejerk didn't actually work on these cartoons. That's why Bill Wray and Scott Wills only show up on the second Games set and weren't on the first - John was forced to call in people who actually did work on them.
Bill Wray says it was a "sick joke" played on him, since all that was left were his own [bad] cartoons and "headless chicken" cartoons that weren't really directed at all to help save the series' budget (see Sick Little Monkeys for more details on this). But he's a weirdo himself as he was trying to repair his and John's friendship forever. Go figure. Like with all nutsos' stories, it's complicated.
