I'm a massive Disney Parks tard and even I think they're slipping up hard. Sure they're putting in new attractions and cutting out the old (quite honestly Bug's Land needed to go) that attention to upkeep just isn't there anymore: lights on Main Street are going out, paint is peeling, there's dust and cobwebs in places there shouldn't be. Yeah, count me as one of those people who were upset when Tower of Terror was replaced but I think Mission Breakout was a poor replacement in the technical aspects. It's a good reflection on the movies being turned out, that spark of passion for making things isn't quite there as it was in the past.

Also if you all want a good narrative on the constant blunders of Eisner, I strongly suggest Defunctland's episodes on Disney attractions.

Fuck you guys for not mentioning Hercules.

'Kay to throw my own hat into the "favorite Disney movie" pile, it's definitely a hard one especially since I've had different favorites over the years. When I was little, The Little Mermaid was my favorite even though I remember watching Aladdin and Cinderella more. I never had all of the Disney films, however, so I had to track films down on my own time as I got older. As such, Hunchback of Notre Dame became my favorite, and sometimes I wonder what it would've been like had I grown up with this film because of how creepily sexual it is (thanks to Frollo), although if we want to claim Who Framed Roger Rabbit? as a Disney film (I don't see how it isn't what with Toon Town), then that's my favorite. When it comes to soundtracks, again, Hunchback of Notre Dame for how atmospheric it is. I'm just a sucker for choirs, though, so it might be bias on my part.

For favorite Disney princess, after a lot of thought, I'd have to say Mulan (the movie's like in my top ten if I had a top ten). She's been adopted into the princess line-up (think it was after she married Shang?) and that's why she has much more exposure, and she's been sadly watered down as a result in merchandising--but then I remembered that before she became a soldier and saved China, she was a woman. She wasn't very good at being feminine by Chinese standards ("Dishonor! Dishonor on your whole family! Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow...!"), but she was a woman nevertheless. And that's the life she returned to after the Huns were defeated (or well, even before). People like to look to Belle for a feminist princess, but I feel like Mulan perfected it in a much more subtle way.

For an honorable mention, The Rescuers Down Under is extremely underrated even to this day. The opening sequence is boss, I think it's the best Disney's ever done as much as I like the opening to Hunchback and Lion King's iconic "NAAAAAAAAAnts ingonyama".

Upkeep hasn't been there since the turn of the century.

I wanted to point out/ask if maintenance on the rides to make sure they're safe is the top priority so Disneyland doesn't get another Thunder Mountain/Matterhorn incident and they don't have enough cast members to clean up the place, but that's probably a very :optimistic: question and money's actually going someplace that Walt himself would shake his head at.

My faves are Hunchback, Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, and The Great Mouse Detective. Though I also have some soft spots for Princess and the Frog and Rescuers Down Under.

I actually remember also watching The Black Cauldron a lot as a kid, but I don't think I liked it very much. The Horned King voiced by John Hurt was pretty pimpass cool though.

Thunder has a killswitch in place if restraints are compromised that puts the ride on an hour long reboot, I know that for sure. I gotta say it's pretty intresting to see the ride while taking the emergency exits.
But it's just general aesthetic stuff they seem to be lacking on lately, stuff they used to pride themselves on.

Yeah as far as I've heard/seen it's not much for something accidentally killing you, but really keep your hands down. Space Mountain has some pretty low clearances on those tunnels.

It's not the main parks, but I did finally get over to the revamp of Disney Village / Pleasure Island / Westside. Basically it's like Universal's CityWalk without the parking fee. Parking is still shit, not quite the same as back when it was the clusterfuck of the three different lots but still pretty bad.
Any of you guys that knew/were castmembers have any good horror stories to share? I think Disney has potential as a lolcow but would like to know more.
Stupid Guest Tricks used to be mildly active. I haven't looked in a while.

Technically Roger Rabbit is and technically it isn't. It was released under Touchstone, the label Disney used to have for adult films, but everyone thinks of it as a Disney film anyway.

things i liked: tangled, atlantis, big hero 6, tarzan

apart from that, i freaking disney as a company. it's a blight on this society and i pray to god it gets defunct. sure, most of the shit they own will die but who cares?

Sometimes, society needs to start over in a big way. That means letting a lot of shit die out so new and better ideas can emerge in their place.

My Top 5 Disney movies are:
  1. The Little Mermaid
  2. Beauty & The Beast
  3. Mary Poppins
  4. The Lion King
  5. Sleeping Beauty (or Snow White; give or take)
And I think that The Great Mouse Detective, The Princess & The Frog, and Enchanted are criminally underrated.

Fuck yes. The Rescuers Down Under is awesome!

Other random Disney movie-related opinions:
  • Hunchback of Notre Dame is the most frustrating Disney movie. The tone is inconsistent, the comedy is terrible, the gargoyles are cancer ... But the soundtrack is amazing, Frollo is THE most sinister Disney villain, and the "Hellfire" sequence may very well be the single greatest Disney moment of all time ... But the movie is still not good. Disney absolutely needed to stay committed to the dark tone; you could just sense that they could have had a masterpiece on their hands and they fucked it up.

  • I am a basic bitch who likes Frozen. I think a part of the reason is because I thought the trailers looked absolutely terrible and so I had the lowest expectations ever ... And then I was very pleasantly surprised by it.

  • I wasn't too crazy about Tangled when it first came out (I was expecting something very different when I first saw it, and was disappointed). It has completely grown on me over the years though, and I love it now.

  • The live action remakes make me feel dead inside. They're the worst. Worse than the direct-to-video sequels ... Because at least everyone knew those were bad. When the Beauty & The Beast remake came out, everybody seemed to love it ... And I absolutely hated it. People WENT AFTER ME after I voiced my distaste for it. And the less I talk about that garbage movie, Maleficent, the better.

Has anyone watched that terrible recent Buzzfeed video, where they had former Disney Park cast members talk about their experiences? It stirred up QUITE a bit of drama, because current and other former cast members were pissed.

First off, the cast members in the Buzzfeed video did everything they could to tarnish the "character integrity" and basically erased the Disney magic when it comes to playing the characters.

Secondly, these dumbasses basically encouraged the people watching the video to bitch at "the right people" at the Parks so they'll get all of these perks and be able to jump the lines and shit. Because, you know, people in large crowds can totally afford to act worse and more entitled than they already do ... Way to go, Buzzfeed.

@Steamboat_Bill

I've placed my book order but something I didn't end up getting also caught my eye. Robin Hood Rides Again of Gotffriedson's colour Sundays. It looks amazing but the price is ridiculous (upwards of 200 used). Do you know if there might be a way to get it cheaper e.g. a reprint in the works or being sold on a digital store such as comixology?
