An actor with dwarfism has backed the organisers of a controversial wrestling event involving people with the condition.

James Lusted, from Colwyn Bay, says the shows in Cardiff and Swansea should go ahead next month.

He was responding to calls from a charity for venues to boycott Extreme Dwarfanators Wrestling.

Venues in Leicester and Ferndown, near Bournemouth, have already cancelled performances.

The Restricted Growth Association (RGA) compared the event to a "freak show" that ridicules people with dwarfism.

However, Mr Lusted, a TV presenter, motivational speaker and county councillor, says those involved in the event deserve the opportunity to perform.

"If they want to wrestle then let them crack on. If you don't agree with it don't go," he told BBC Radio Wales.

"I'm really frustrated the shows have been cancelled.

"That's how they've chosen to live, that's how they've chosen to support their families, pay their bills. Why don't we just encourage and support them in that.

"These professional entertainers, they're well trained and fit but they're actually going to lose finances now. I feel sorry for them."

Organisers say the "family" show is about promoting equality.

However Gillian Martin, of RGA, said the event was "deeply offensive" and urged venues to "move into the 21st Century" by cancelling the event.

"They are about making people laugh at the Victorian spectacle of people with dwarfism fighting each other," she added.

Standing at 3ft 7in tall, Mr Lusted was born with Diastrophic Dyslasia - a rare genetic condition that causes dwarfism - despite his parents both being of average height.

He has twice represented Great Britain in the World Dwarf Games and has been the UK champion at Class One badminton for nine years. He carried the Olympic torch when it travelled through Wales in 2012.

"I can understand that some people don't like this kind of thing," he said.

"But those involved are human beings so let's support them and not discourage them by campaigning to cancel their shows.

"There are more important things for the charity RGA to be campaigning about. I'd be campaigning for stuff like dropped kerbs and problems getting life insurance."

Tickets remain on sale for the show at Coyote Ugly Saloons in Cardiff, on 18 October, and Swansea on 21 October.

See, this is the kind of mentality that needs to be promoted. Pragmatism is a fuckin' godsend.

Another example of SJWs making things worse for the people they supposedly represent, instead of better. Very low move indeed.

Also lol that the Twitter handle is @rgauk

Dwarfs wrestling would be fun to watch tbh.

Autistic as fuck comparison, but it's like that older South Park episode with Timmy being in a rock band and people were getting offended on his behalf because they thought the people that enjoyed his shows were laughing at him and not with him. Who the hell is forcing the dwarfs at gunpoint to amuse the big people? They're adults, they're doing this voluntarily and more power to them if they genuinely want this to do this to make a living to support themselves and their loved ones. Now these people want to take that away from them?

It’s like when they used to have freak shows for odd people back around the turn of the century. It’s not nice or PC today, “Come look at the freaks!” But for a lot of them it was their only livelihood. For example, it helped the Siamese twins who could barely work and couldn’t marry.

finally, wrestling I could get into, ruined by fucking danger hairs and political correctness.
we need to take a stand for dwarfs.

Good on them for taking the initiative and asserting their independence in their own lives. Who cares if some of the people who'll attend the event are going to do it just to laugh at them? They wrestlers are the ones who'll laugh last, since they'll get the cash. Besides, isn't it better for the disabled to do whatever they can to help support themselves? There are some disabled folks who will never be able to be employed because of severe cognitive impairment, etc. Others may not be able to work full time and may need some government assistance to ensure they can make ends meet, and still others are able to work full-time jobs. If anyone, disabled or not, finds a way to earn their keep instead of subsisting off the government dime, isn't that to be encouraged so the government programs exist for those who truly need them?

I'd watch the wrestlers if they came to my town. Amateur wrestling is a good time. Best of luck to them.

Isn't this just a league where midgets fight other midgets (from what little I've looked up this event is 100% midgets, including the referees but correct me if I'm wrong)? What's the problem? If anything, it would be a freakshow if they had them fight wrestlers twice their size. This is just undersized dudes turning a disadvantage into an advantage by using it to draw an audience, which is what wrestling is all about. Just assuming that midgets doing something normal-sized people do is a freakshow doesn't sound very progressize.

Because then that would ruin it for the leeches that get gibs for merely breathing and have no desire to better themselves. Unlike the ones that actually do need them while they work to get themselves off of the state's teat, they have all the free time in the world to bitch about having to actually do something

These sjws would never protest the exploitation of these same people in porn (which still calls them "midgets"). Their litmus test really seems to be "if someone jerked off to this it's okay, everyone involved is now a brave sex worker who must be protected at all costs".

Mexican mini's are the best, tbh.

Sad that these guys are being denied their chance to do their job and support themselves. Seems very discriminatory and ableist towards these athletes.

The local dwarves were pretty upset when the PC Brigade protested dwarf tossing events away around here. Everyone had fun at those.
