I was in my family ward today and saw they had recently gotten a new member who happens to be deaf, so she had an interpreter up front (family member or special calling, I don't know) and I was immediately reminded of Russell. Then I had a thought (can't remember if this has been brought up before, I at least didn't say anything).

I've mentioned before that missionaries don't choose their mission calling. In Russ' case, however, he could've picked what kind of mission: to serve a full-time two-year mission (which he did), or apply for a service mission. Service missions are considered part-time missions meaning the missionary's service time is halved but they pick their schedule, and they can stay at home and still use electronics after their shifts at wherever they're called to serve (like a bishop's storehouse or some other church-owned retail centers, some do technical and media support, and others aid in family history), but service missionaries can have the same blessings and opportunities as full-time missionaries. Service missions are typically done by retired folks who don't have current callings but want to do more for the church, but it has become increasingly more accessible for the disabled who are unable to go out into the field.

I don't know if Russell had thought of it before sending in his papers, but he could've made the attempt to apply for a service mission, there really wasn't much stopping him from trying outside of lack of a desire to serve. Maybe he thought about it, but his parents wanted him out of the house or something. Whatever the reason, he went for the full-time mission, and this is what intrigues me. Like I said, missions aren't decided by the missionary, it's believed missions are preordained, so the prophet prayerfully looks at each mission paper he receives and based on revelation gives out the missions which he signs off on. Under the late Thomas S. Monson, Russell was called down to Arizona as an ASL missionary--but my question is why? Surely God is fully aware of his plight, that ASL is heavily depended upon facial expressions, and indeed he had a hard time with it. His surgery wasn't very successful in fixing his face, after all.

I like to believe God has a bizarre sense of humor, I don't think there's much else to that other than to find amusement in His favorite idiot. That, or it's just God going out west to play "Kick the Autistic: Möbius Edition".

Here's the rest of the comments, just for the sake of archival:

Someone linked the Farms! We’re famous!

There’s probably zero chance Russ has seen any of those comments. My guess is that he forgot to disable his profile because the second he sees those he is going to delete the comment like always.

I love it when people link the Orchards and drop some of his greatest hits. Warms my heart.

I do believe he might not come back to answer, but I'm damn sure he his supervising the replies and seeing who he can try to "doxx" using a screencap of the profile of the person whose comment pissed him off the most.

God might be aware of all that, but I'd bet that whoever gave Russ an ASL mission was not. I suspect they probably just knew the dude's face is busted and he can't talk very clearly, so they figured they'd give him a non-speaking part.

I can't get more screenshots at the moment, but people are STILL tearing into Russ over that Huffpost comment. Linking to his book, lawsuits, everything.

He hasn't replied of course, but that's not deterring them.

The best part is that you know hes going to post a rant about how random people are picking on him for having “an opinion” with absolutly no regard with what hes said or how he responds to others “opinions” in a similar manner.
It’ s a record on repeat, but the sheer stupidity still never ceases to amuse me.

I gotta admit seeing people unload on him is kinda nice. It won't penetrate his thick skull but it did put a smile on my face.

It will just add to his narrative of woe, but I don't give a shit. He's welcome to his empty life with nothing but his plight to keep him company. So long as I get to see him slapped around like a slack-jawed bitch, I'm happy.

What I find interesting about Greer is that while he fits my "Self Appointed Hero" on my bestiary of autists, he has deemed himself the hero despite committing no deeds that could be considered heroic.

Except in his own mind.

Kurt Eichenwald is another cow who falls under this type of autist, but at least, by some definition, his occupation of being a journalist (at the time he attained his heroic pretensions) is one where it's expected your service does a net good to humanity, at least some segment of it.

Greer doesn't even have this excuse. From his Mormon mission onward, he has done nothing by any objective standard to attempt to benefit anyone other than himself. Someone compared him to Handsome Jack from the Borderlands series, but even Jack, both before and after any semblance of morality left him, truly wanted to be seen as the hero, and given the level of power he managed to wield and the people willing to die on his behalf both before and after he lost his remaining sanity, his actions justified his pretensions in someone's eyes.

Greer, by contrast, literally has no advocate that deems him the hero. His sex work crusade has made him an enemy of the very people he claims to be a hero for, the actually discriminated consider him the anti-role model for their cause, and even the most bitter, woman hating incel finds it hard to cheer for him because he's a failure as a "hero" even by their demented standards.

On a side note, I find the most amusing comments to be the ones where they blindly, automatically assume that Greer's attitude arises from adherence to a religion, completely unaware that he is an outspoken antitheist like themselves.

It's amusing because they're harping on a guy who blindly, automatically assumes that people reject him because he's disabled or because they are insistently ignorant, completely unaware of the real reason they reject him.

The hypocrisy is splendid.

You really don't think the fact the guy accused of rape is a Mormon power broker has anything to do with Russ defending him? Why else would be upset about it?

Well because it's in Utah, and it's getting media attention.

You know what else is in Utah? That's right, a disabled guy who's legalizing brothels and is currently in a lawsuit with Taylor Swift. But he's getting ignored by the bigoted media.

Nah, he doesn't give a shit about that. He's not been welcome in the church for quite a while. I think he's like a lapsed Catholic that gets all pissy about that church's own "history" with sexual assault. Kind of a residual I can make fun of it, but don't you fucking dare kind of sentiment. Additionally, he doesn't believe that women can be sexually assaulted and thinks that any woman who speaks out about it should get over it...as he cries about "muh plight" incessantly. He's very much an incel in this respect. Women don't have feelings aside from their relation to Rusty. If he thinks he can get him his penis sucked then he'll try to throw money or "gifts" at them, but once that's off the table, they're AIDS ridden whores or sued or ranted at on IG.

Libertarians like Russ know what’s up.

I think he just does drive by comments the way Chis-chan used to, never paying much attention to the responses. A sort of " I am speaking and have spoken" thing.
