So I've been out of the loop when it comes to Mega Man, but in the Collections games, did they ever fix the gameplay in X5 and X6? You know, maybe make it so you didn't have to make so many blind jumps in X5? Or modify that one technique you get from Ground Scaravich, you know, the one that's really fucking easy to accidentally use and send you dropping into a pit?

The PlayStation trophies for both of the X Legacy Collections have been revealed:

The first one

The second one

X7 in particular has the "Smooth Operator" trophy, in which you have to pick up all of Alia's support calls...yep, good luck with that one, PS4 owners. But two trophies in particular are receiving some healthy attention: "Reconnaissance Complete" in the first one and "Another Day, Another Recon" in the second one, both of which speak of some secret image. The second Classic Legacy Collection also had a secret image. I wonder what this could mean for the X series...

As far as X5 and X6 are concerned, the Maverick names in the former were changed in the North American version to be more in line with their Japanese counterparts. This was done to undo Alyson "Claire Redfield" Court's handiwork of naming them after Guns N' Roses members in honor of her (now ex-)husband. Everything else, as far as I know, is the same—yes, that includes Alia interrupting the flow of gameplay with her bullshit. As for the latter, nothing has changed, and that includes the infamously shoddy translation work. So Zero is still brought back from the dead because he hid himself whilst trying to repair himself. Each of the games does have a "Rookie Hunter" mode to go along with it, though, so perhaps that could alleviate things like X6's fetish for spikes.

Well that's really disappointing, especially in regards to X6's pitiful translation. I was really hoping they would do something about that given how much they've teased it. And it is annoying they didn't fix things like Alia's constant interruptions because it just feels like their priorities weren't straight. Why fix something that's barely an issue while not doing anything about the one thing everyone hates about X5?

New footage of Mega Man 11, folks. This time we're shown the first half of Blast Man's stage, which is giving me all sorts of Grenade Man vibes. Also, the tank enemies that chuck fireballs are reminiscent of Flame Man's stage.

There's also a pachislot machine in Japan called Rockman Ability, with some new designs of Mega Man and Proto Man to boot. I can't help but imagine the amount of salt that would erupt had this been announced just a year ago (before classic Legacy Collection 2 came out and hinted at a possible 11 with that picture disguised as artwork for 8). Good for our Japanese Kiwis, I guess.

On the X side of things, there's a message in the physical release of the soundtrack album that reads, "The story of X's fight is not yet over." This could very well be alluding to X's post-X adventures, but given the way the teaser is set up it's more than likely hinting at a possible X9, the first game in the series in ~15 goddamn years. I mean, if the latter is the case then good on Capcom for planning it ahead of time, but the X Legacy Collections aren't even out yet, and they're more than likely using them to gauge interest in a new Mega Man X title. Let's just hope they sell well enough so that Capcom doesn't pull a Universe/Legends 3 on us again and ax(l) the whole thing.

New Robot Master bois

And his name was correctly guessed as well. Two down, four more to go. This dude is basically the answer to the question, "What would happen if Burner Man and Magma Dragoon had an ambiguously gay lovechild together?"

And with that I think I'm going to halt the Mega Man 11 news in this thread (at the very least, all the major information) until the game itself actually comes out. I was planning on doing so after getting my hands on the X Legacy Collections so that I would have something to distract me for the next two and a half months, but that's just what happens when you have half of the Robot Master roster already revealed. Mega Man games typically aren't very long anyway, especially the classic games.

There's been some reports that the Mega Man X Legacy Collection's got some pretty bad latency issues. X1 in particular suffers from nearly 8 frames of lag in comparison to the original SNES version's 2.8. And apparently even the SNES Classic version's got better latency than the Legacy Collection.

Here's a video testing out the inputs (SNES Classic isn't included).

This is disappointing to say the least.

I like Blast Man's stage. I've always liked circus/theme park levels.

Wasn't the Classic Collection on the Gamecube kind of bad with the MM8 port?

I've heard of that, mostly through SomecallmeJohnny's review, but I've never personally played 8 or the Classic Collection so I can't really say.

Honestly, it's stuff like that that makes me not use emulators in general.

Kinda looking forward to Mega Man 11, the time stopping and quick ability select via thumbsticks looks like it could be loads of fun. lightning fast weapon select is old news of PC gamers with keyboards, but it's great that they've finally figured out something for controllers, hopefully we'll see console shooters follow suit.

Being able to effortlessly switch between the warious robot master powers in the blink of an eye without scrolling through them could lead to some really sick gameplay, especially if the team recognizes the potential and builds the levels and challenges around it. I just hope the team porting it to PC will have enough brains to map switching abilities to the numpad instead of something retarded, like having to wave around the mouse to do it.

Speaking of Mega Man X...

We return to one of my favorite Mega Man sites to reveal something we missed by about 6 months:

The timeline between the Classic series and X series (as of Mega Man 5, anyway). Thoughts?

EDIT: oh, and the Mega Man cartoon is about to come out:
It's supposed to start airing on CN on August 5th but the first 8 episodes are apparently on the Cartoon Network app right now (or will be starting on August 3rd proper)

Again, thoughts?

The trailer looks kinda crap. The character design's alright, but the actual animation's not that great. And the writing's bad too. There are a few good ideas, like having the Robot Masters lashing out against their human masters and creating tensions with the humans and the robots, but I'm not so sure how much they can explore the concept.

I have the X collections on the Switch. Some occasional frame skipping in the SNES games but not enough to hamper my experience. If I came across input lag I hardly noticed it. Apparently it's a lot worse when you're playing in TV mode, but since I play 99.99% of the time in handheld mode I can't say for sure.

Anyway, I've gone ahead and finished getting all the achievements for both the first and second collections (which are the same across all platforms except for the PS4-exclusive SA-Class Hunter and Ultimate Hunter, and those only require you to get all the rest of the trophies).

The ones in the first collection were obviously much easier and less time consuming to obtain than the ones in the second collection. The "secret image" and "secret track" ones were annoying because they had more criteria than stated (which included completing all the X Challenges, which thankfully allow you to play on easy mode because normal mode might as well be hard mode). X1's were a piece of cake. X2 had the tricky Magna Centipede one where you had to avoid all the spotlights, but still nothing too difficult. I had to play X3 twice because I'm used to killing Bit, Byte, and Vile by finishing them off with their weaknesses, so I had to face Sigma and his tiny, tiny head twice. Ditto for X4, but then again that game expects you to play it as both X and Zero.

Now for the achievements in the second collection. First up, "Out of the Frying Pan" for X5. I managed to get the Enigma to work in four attempts—the first of which involved firing it with just three out of the four parts, the other three had me reload and play Shining "Izzy Glow" Firefly's stage (which isn't particularly short) over and over. I guess you could say I was extremely lucky, but regardless, having an achievement based around RNG is stupid. There's also the one where you have to obtain parts from all eight of the Mavericks by getting a game over a certain amount of times to get all of them to a high enough level, as well as the one where you have to dodge all the lasers in Zero Stage 1 without using Dark Hold. The former showcased one of the biggest out of X5's many, many bizarre design choices, while the latter was a bunch of trial-and-error bullshit. X6's achievements were a pain in the ass to obtain, but mostly only because X6 itself is a pain in the ass. As for X7, the one where you have to save all the Reploids can go fuck itself, and so can the Alia one. I didn't get the Alia one the first time I played through the game, so I was convinced for the longest time that I had to replay X7 to make sure I went through all the conversations. Turns out, that achievement also counts the calls made during the intro stage by Axl (?), so while I didn't have to play very far the second time for it to appear, it's still a bullshit achievement to try to obtain and the worst one across both collections by far. The last achievement I ever got involved playing as all the Navigators in X8, which took a very long time for me because they had the infinite metal glitch removed and so I had to grind.

Oh, and on the topic of Fully Charged...apparently it's not doing so hot. Having premieres so early in the morning tends to do that. I have yet to see it myself, but from what I'm hearing it's very divisive.

Why are they even showing episodes that early? This is supposed to be a kids' show, but I guarantee you no kid is going to be up at 6:30 in the morning period. It's like they want the show to fail.

Or they're subtly shilling their streaming service. First 8 episodes are on their app already. "Didn't catch it on TV? Get our app and catch up there!"

Of course Cartoon Network doesn't want it to succeed. Having it around means they would have to show at least one less rerun of Teen Titans Go! every day, and they ain't having any of that shit.

Seriously, though, they really dropped the ball. Even if this show wasn't intended to be targeted toward seasoned Mega Man fans, it seemed like a good opportunity to introduce kids to a franchise spanning three decades and had up until now been receiving neglect for nearly one of those decades. It was announced to be in the works at a time when the future of Mega Man was uncertain, but now that it's flopped and that Mega Man 11 is around the corner (something that could potentially do a much better job at introducing kids to the Blue Bomber), it's becoming harder and harder to figure out just what the purpose of it really is, if it even has any at all.

It's because Inafune is gone. When you don't have the creators, franchises collapse.
