Having read the book John is melting down after having read, let me clear up a few things:

1) The book is written by a journalist who had more than just a small bone to pick with Ross.
2) The book is all prosecution evidence, with some input from the few people who knew Ross, principally the ex-girlfriend he was reconciling with before his arrest. Ross declined to be interviewed, as did all the other "inner circle" members that had been caught. Combined with point 1, its not exactly going to paint a very rosy picture of the man. That said, the book does a good job of sticking the facts when the facts are known. (Its got a slight bias, but not a slant.)
3) RE: the murders themselves, there is no actual evidence the murders were intended to take place.
I'm going to try to summarize:
Two federal agents went rogue, and were siphoning off bitcoin from the Silk Road while they were supposed to be investigating. One of the guys created an "undercover" persona, using what he knew from the investigation to become the guy that had the solution to everything Ross needed. When one of the "inner circle" got busted, this guy talked to Ross about arranging a hit on him and some other people. The conversation amounted to "If this guy were to turn up dead, what would that be worth to you?" - the link is tenative. Slightly more damning, he arranged a payment to someone who claimed connections to the Hell's Angels to take out someone who had been skimming shipments. "Proof" was sent back in the form of crime scenes photos from a murder that had no ties to drugs, Hell's Angels, and predated the "hit" by a few years; Ross got scammed.

Anyway, there is no evidence any actual murders came out of the Silk Road;there was a "murder for hire" section, but it looks like people just accepted the jobs, then simply took the money and did nothing, because what the fuck was going to happen them? You can't go to the cops, and you're obviously not that hard of a mother fucker; you're looking to a hitman on the internet. But this is immaterial because even if no murder had taken place, Ross was really looking to have one happen.
But that's why the prosecution dropped that part of the charges, they had him on enough other stuff they didn't need it.

(Personally I thought a life sentence* was overly harsh, but can also respect that a message needed to be sent and a precedent set, especially given the scale.)
*there is no parole for a federal sentance

Even when they did give an age for Wu, it never meshed with the narrative given for his life. John's Wikipedia article is a colossal joke.

Rape arrests and convictions have little to do with law enforcement. It has to do with laws, and due process. If she wants to get into a tizzy, look at human trafficking convictions. They are non existent because the evidence is a person. There isn’t a physical, inanimate object to place in an evidence locker for 18 months as the state attorney’s office gathers their case. It’s a scared, traumatized person who defense attorneys will shred.

Most rape victims without physical evidence are advised that on cross the defense can and will be on the attack to discredit them. Their whole lives become fair game, because it is one word v. another.

Is this ok? No. It’s why advocates exist. But, it is the truth. Shit is more complicated than a rando tweet.


As a side note, since I’m here... Brianna... direct, honest advice: please purchase maxi dresses (ankle length) and have them hemmed below the knee. I am personally enraged by your attire. No woman who has confidence in her abilities feels the need to show her assets in an advantageous way. In your case, it’s just silly. No politician would dress like they were at a night club. I’m not shit posting, I’m legit trying to help...for reasons I don’t even understand.
