Did you not read the Craiglist post for the car with the cracked engine block? That is by far the funniest, most desperate attempt to deceive someone into buying a completely useless vehicle.

I mean...he did say that the car had a cracked engine block. If a buyer cant be bothered to even look that up if they dont know what it is they probably deserve to be scammed.

Nothing about anything Chris says seems intentionally deceptive to me. I think it's that he says ridiculous things with such confidence that they often come across as disingenuous or untrue. He truly believes what he's saying, and I think that deception involves trying to convince someone of something other than what you perceive to be the truth.

Chris really believes that a dang dirty mechanic cracked his engine block. He doesn't know enough about cars to know actually lie about them.
Feeling sad or horny? Announce that these feelings will delay production of goods, even if you really don't need to.
Someone on some forum talks about your new scrote decoration? Describe it in great detail to an even larger audience.

Because of his ego, he really believes that his truths are unimpeachable - so why bother lying?

Coldgrip, I might say this is enlightening , but services "he will do his best to avoid?" What about if he really hits rock bottom? Are you telling me he'd rather starve to death than hit up the welfare office?
Chris for the most part is very unaware of what resources can be utilized to help himself (or Barb) unless they've pointed out to them and explained. Usually multiple times. Even then he'd rather have somebody else (in this case mommy) deal with it. After all, those things are grown-up responsibilities, and Chris would rather spend time with his MULTIPLES of lego heartlake high sets.

I wonder if Chris has ever heard of or knows what the term "debt" means......

Chris is still really just a child inside that flabby potato shape body of his. He never really had much real world experience and really was very naive about how adult life works. It's seems he never learned anything in school or from his parents about how to be a adult so now he's flaying about willy-nilly through basic situations.

The fun thing is that real life is trying so hard to teach him but he's still covering his ear and screaming to drown it out. Woe is him once his last security blanket kicks the bucket.

They're both retarded however. If you eat out for every meal like I'm guessing they do, that takes it's toll on your wallet. He also buys whatever he wants with little impunity or consequence. Basically, their supposed poverty extends to their shitty spending habits. Chris is a man child but Barb doesn't really have an excuse. She's a seventy year old woman and knows about bills.

Barb is crazy and senile, but she's not entirely stupid. I think that Barb's main deal now is that she knows that she's alone with no family and friends (aside from Chris) and that her life is drawing to an end, and she just doesn't give a fuck. She doesn't have energy to do much more than sit on the couch all day. If bill collectors call, so what? She can just hang up on them. Someone tries to evict her? So call the cops and have them drag her out and all her stuff. (not an easy task) If Barb wants a new car, new TV, or whatever, she's just going to buy it if she can. She'll enjoy it the last few years of her life as much she can, guarding her horde, and she doesn't give a fuck what she leaves behind after she passes away. If the repo man comes by, or if she leaves Chris with a stack of unpaid bills, so be it.

I really think that's where Barb's at right now, as far as mindset goes, at least.

She might also be smart enough to know that any debt solely in her name doesn't pass to Chris. It will either be paid out of her estate (if there is one) or it will die with her. Generally speaking, life insurance passes outside the estate, so it's only assets which she owns in part or whole which would be up for grabs when she dies.

I am still drawn between feeling pity for Chris and lulzing at his situation.

**just found out about DoxxGate, all pity is gone

Good point, repentance. I don't know if it's different in other countries and that's why some people seem to think debts can be inherited in the US?

On the other hand, I would be shocked if Barb had much life insurance at all. Maybe enough to pay for a funeral ($5,000 to $10,000) but my guess is that the family life insurance investment was weighted toward Bob.

The worst part is these are her last years with Chris and all she's doing is re-enforcing his bad habits. I wonder what she'd do if he actually got the means to move out. At this point it seems like she's more dependent on him than he is on her.

That's all she's been doing ever since Chris was born. Why would she stop/change now?

Chris has the means to move out. If he budgeted carefully, his $1300 a month tugboat would be enough to pay the bills for a small place in rural Virginia. But Chris is an disorganized, incompetent impulse spender, so that's never going to happen, and as things are now, he couldn't survive on his own. For sake of argument though, Barb would either stay where she was at, trying to forestall eviction as long as possible, seek aid from estranged family members, become homeless/live in a shelter or elderly home, or perhaps the first three options would all happen sequentially.

At this point it seems like she's more dependent on him than he is on her.
They are dependent on each other, but in different ways. They pool their finances together to help pay the bills, and while Barb is more mentally competent, only Chris has the physical stamina necessary for running errands, shopping, and other household related chores. Barb is the one who has the common sense to pay the credit card minimums and electric bill every month, and Chris is the muscle that brings home the groceries and other necessary goods. (i.e. Barbage)

I disagree in a minor way. Chris can be deceptive, but in the way a small child is. His fibs are attempts to shift blame from himself, usually (usually) not an attempt to maliciously deceive someone. Especially on his online sales, he's been pretty on the level about the services he provides. You see his lies in stuff like OH THE MECHANIC MESSED UP NOT ME, but he's not going to tell you the car is perfect when its not. When Chris lies its almost always in his own interest to protect his ego and image.

Yeah, his lies are almost always self serving and very flimsy, like when he was talking to Kacey.

The question is: is Chris smart enough to know this? (Spoiler: he's not). Plus, there are collection agencies out there that don't let little things like "the law" or "morality" get in the way of harrassing someone for money.
