I think it's irrevocably tied to a time and place (Early to mid 90's) to a degree it won't "Work" no matter what you do. It could only have come from a time when "computer science" was still a thing in schools, trying to "update" it in either art style or to fit the "modern" internet-based computing world (and all the attendant garbage, like GG and social media) wouldn't really work, I don' think. A good writer may be able to pull it off, but I'd have zero faith any reboot would get one.

They rebooted it. It didn't work. Not because of anything you said, but because it was an entirely different show that they slapped the ReBoot name on.

You had zero faith, and I assume you're not disappointed.

I had a look around twitter and found two storyboard artists on Thundercats Roar. They can do better. MUCH, MUCH better. (Although one is clearly better than the other one, as the other one does habitually more of the type of artwork on her own that Thundercats Roar is). Obviously those people aren't the ones that made the character designs, but they are of course following the model and of course they have to say that what they're drawing is the shit and they love it. Also found out that THE SAME STUDIO that made OK KO LET'S BE HEROES is animating Thundercats Roar. No wonder it looks like it. But the same studio has at least two other cartoons whose character designs are actually decent. *headdesk forever* C'mon, I know they can do better, why don't they? Even MARGINALLY better would be a step up.

The Calarts style and this show has made some salt and tweets.
Examples:

Tries to do a take on anime in response to CalArts style

The tweet has a pic of a tweet who thinks those complaining must all be manchildren.
https://twitter.com/animeoutsiders/status/998275951459995648

Manchildren or not, the art style still apes Steven Universe and even though the animators work hard and all, the show still doesn't have much of a unique style other than just being a reboot. If the salt mines were still up, this iteration of Thundercats would be a good mine.

I can tell this show will be on air for about 2 years then be replaced by that OK KO show and disappear without anyone noticing just by looking at the style

Kaffirs of Kiwifarms I suggest we open up a betting pool.

We each list the 5 old cartoons we think are most likely to get a Calarts update, and whomever wins (i.e. lists the most correct predictions) within the next 2 years gets a blowey-joey from every member of the moderation team and Null

Here is my list
1) He Man (because obvious fucking reasons)
2) Wacky Races (because cheapifying an already cheap series seems a no brainer for these tards)
3) Dexters Lab (because PPG reboot demonstrated a crappy rehash of old CN shows makes shekels with zero effort)
4) The Jetsons (because i have this hunch that neo zeerust is coming as a trend)
5) Hey Arnold (because theres a movie out soon which will make execs roll the dice on a cheap new series)
I never thought I’d be glad Megas XLR was put in the grave permanently via tax write off, but...

It's always good to see my favorite argument "It's for kids so it doesn't matter that it looks like a burst boil on a gorilla's ass" show up yet again.
The statement of it's for kids so X really needs to get followed up with something akin to why do you think kids only deserve shit more often frankly.

I never thought I'd miss the early 2000's "everything is moe" art style but Calarts makes that shit look like Picasso.

They're appealing to fans with no standards? Pretty sure most people feel they're entitled to good programming when they pay for a channel.

Thundercats fans are feeling as miserable as i do about the Reboot in name only reboot and i feel bad they have to feel like that.
I really wanted a continuation of Reboot that didn't suck like just one more fucking episode to end the story BUT NO!
Fuck everything *Sigh*

If they go for anything, it will be the other set of manthighs that turned Gen-X gay - Thundarr the Barbarian.
