I like that you chose the most autistic pose possible for the protagonist in that sceenshot.

It's moments like these I wish the children's network who broadcast this schlock had an age verification system activated by default so those who, for whatever goddamn reason, still subscribe to cable get *some* kind of reprieve and don't come across this by accident...

Goddamn it so thats half my list down the fucking toilet already because it looks like media execs are even bigger sellout hackfrauds than I thought. Never gonna get them blowys now :(

It's like something a five year old drew that you say looks beautiful and you put on the refrigerator door even though it's a major eyesore.

We've literally gone from talented artists creating great cartoons to what looks like a studio comprised solely of kindergartners who have to show mommy every frame.

At least the horrible headcanons might be fun. It looks enough like Steven Universe to maybe attract some of those spergs. Stuff like this makes me miss the Salt Mine.:feels:

I'll be honest. I was never that big a fan of Thundercats back when it was aired. I enjoyed it, but not so much that I'd call myself a hardcore fan. That said, I still can't help but find it more than a little disconcerting when something like this comes along and completely thumbs it's nose at the original source material. At least when Teen Titans Go was made, it didn't completely go against what initially spawned it. Teen Titans Go was a fairly well liked comic before it was made into a television show. Batman The Brave and The Bold wasn't exactly well received when it initially aired, but Batman had enough of a rich and diverse history that the idea of a purely camp Batman show wasn't that hard for people to grasp.

Then you have something like Thundercats, a series that didn't deliberately dip into silliness until it's later seasons and even then, it took itself seriously enough for you to stay invested in what was happening. This such a departure from what fans have come to expect from the series that it raises a few questions. Namely, why was this show made and who is it for? It can't be for the old school fans, because it's such a radical change from what they grew up with that it all but guarantees their disinterest. If it was made for a younger demographic, than why bother using the Thundercats at all? This isn't like TMNT or Transformers where they've been rebooted enough times to be recognized by even the most casual observer. Most youngsters won't don't know a thing about Thundercats, not unless they saw a Robot Chicken sketch about it or their parents happened to have watched it at the time. Unless this show possesses Jim Henson level writing, which I sincerely doubt if that trailer is anything to go by, than this little project seems destined for failure.

Yes, that's exactly what kids shows are made for, marketing. No child likes serious cartoons, either.
I can't believe how dumb and emotionless they think children are.
I remember as a young child, I absolutely loved the 1992 Batman series. That show was as dark and serious as it could get. This show was specifically made for children and it's one of the top cartoons of all time.

Kaffirs of Kiwifarms I suggest we open up a betting pool.

We each list the 5 old cartoons we think are most likely to get a Calarts update, and whomever wins (i.e. lists the most correct predictions) within the next 2 years gets a blowey-joey from every member of the moderation team and Null

Here is my list
1) He Man (because obvious fucking reasons)
2) Wacky Races (because cheapifying an already cheap series seems a no brainer for these tards)
3) Dexters Lab (because PPG reboot demonstrated a crappy rehash of old CN shows makes shekels with zero effort)
4) The Jetsons (because i have this hunch that neo zeerust is coming as a trend)
5) Hey Arnold (because theres a movie out soon which will make execs roll the dice on a cheap new series)

6. Swats kats
7. Totally spies
8. Kim possible (but its live action)
9. Grim's adventure
10. CatDog (since Rocko's modern life is getting a reboot)

I much preferred when Lion-O looked like Ronald McDonald's fursona instead of Steven Universe's. How can you fuck up this badly? (:_(

There's already a Wacky Races reboot on CN's sister Boomerang channel.

The style's an odd mix of both CalArts and the original series.

People are islamic contenting this post, but I was tolerably amused by that. Not least because Dick Dastardly's mother sounds exactly like Tim Brooke-Taylor doing his Lady Constance voice. I'm not sure who the target audience for this is though. Are kiddies really going to get references to A Few Good Men and The Shining?

Can you really use the "it's not for you" argument when the demographic who'd be most interested in a new Thundercats show would be the people who grew up watching it?

I’ve heard good things about the Jem comic but the art turns me off a bit. I do like that they put in things the creator wanted in the original series unlike a lot of reboots though. Maybe I should take a better look.

They made Jetta black right? She originally was supposed to be. But the network was afraid that a black Misfit would cause a stir and make the show look racist. Odd because the Misfits were shown to not be one sided villains and had episodes where you could see they had problems like everyone else. Pizzazz's was a poor little rich girl who's father paid more attention to his work than her. Roxy was ashamed of being illiterate. Stormer was actually a nice girl that was always afraid the pranks went to far and was under pressure from her brother to quit the band. Jetta pretended to be rich and know royalty. But she was actually working class.

I can see how the storyline would have upset the suits. Jetta being black and essentially a low income hoodrat obsessed with bling.

I think that could work as 3D graphics have objectively improved since then - you'd need a whole brigade of Calarts farts to ruin it.

I'd be up for a Reboot Reboot if done right. Especially if they used the title to capitalize on that in some cool way. A lot of fans have wanted one for a long time. But I'd hate to see it look like a bunch of squashed beans with faces. Technology has moved along enough to make the show look really good. But the Steven Universe model is cheap and attracts the teen spergs that buy tons of merchandise.*sigh*

Kids don't, but adults who're watching the cartoon with the kids will, and it'll keep them from going insane having to watch cartoons with the spawn.

I said this already but one came out just this year. It was terrible and had barely any connection to ReBoot at all, and nobody liked it.

I don't think this show is actually targeted to kids, I'm pretty sure it's targeted to adults with arrested development. Example. Only difference is it's gonna suck, not have much of an audience because Cartoon Network isn't going to put it up against Teen Titans Go! and everybody is gonna forget about it. As it should be.
Largely because he isn't. He's not working on the show at all. The guy with the manbun who is working on it is a fan, though.
He only said that because the executives threatened to cut off his manbun if he didn't.

Well... time for me to go lie down and die.

I know at least 3 furries who will attempt to take several TV execs hostage if SWATkats is remade tumblr-style.

I think it's irrevocably tied to a time and place (Early to mid 90's) to a degree it won't "Work" no matter what you do. It could only have come from a time when "computer science" was still a thing in schools, trying to "update" it in either art style or to fit the "modern" internet-based computing world (and all the attendant garbage, like GG and social media) wouldn't really work, I don' think. A good writer may be able to pull it off, but I'd have zero faith any reboot would get one.
