This, apparently, is the show's producer:

Yes, this thing is raw, unfiltered sewage created by a man who looks like he takes it up the arse from an entire chorus line of men nightly, but lets not pretend the old Thundercats was actually good.

How blinded by nostalgia do you have to be not to remember that Thundercats was a shitty 10fps, sweatshop animated time filler for kiddies TV primarily intended to sell toys and as a vehicle for saccharine messages about sharing, not bullying and not getting in the windowless van with the "free sweeties" sign? Have you ever once thought about buying the DVD box set or even torrenting the thing? Can you even remember the details of any episode of the show? Of course you don't. You've barely thought about it since you passed the age of 10.
That's most animated cartoons in the 80s in a nutshell. Even the ones not promoting toylines.

That said, this doesn't look any better than the 10fps nightmare of the 80s series either.

I saw a picture of this on Instagram, and I thought it was a complete joke.
I seriously thought this was a joke.
ARE YOU TELLING ME THIS IS REAL? :stress:

I hate to bring ya boi Zack into this but it's relevant in this case.

He is right you know. Cartoons may be for children in the west primarily, but that is what makes this shit all the worse. We need culture to show positive masculinity, not whatever the fuck this is.

Is he saying that if kids watch cartoons with no masculine role models it will lead to school shootings?

Awfully Werthamesque of you, Mr. Diversity and Comics.

You know, the funny thing is everyone is making a judgment on this show and absolutely nothing has come out. No real clips at all so we can judge what it'll be like. We're just thinking it's going to be Steven Universe 2.0 purely on the art style.

Worse. They are exploited by their employers, most of this talentless tripe is being made up by people who are ideologically communists. So they believe they are furthering their 'progressive agenda', but they are only food for the capitalist machine that makes a mockery of them and their ideology by paying for it cheaply and churning out as much nostalgic, branded crap for society to consume. A society which will mostly be ignorant of the message and just buy the merch. Or even worse, be overwhelmed of the mass-marketing of the message and actively spite it. Resulting in an endless churn of their ideology until capitalism is done with it when it can no longer be effectively marketed. They are the useful re.tards of the capitalist machine, betraying their own ideology, accomplishing nothing and empowering the very people they claim to be against, while removing the ability to fight the oppressor (the people themselves). They, like all SJWs, are hypocrites. But even worse, really fucking stupid ones. They believe they are doing something righteous, while accomplishing nothing but being shills until their evil enemy capitalism throws them to the side like the useless whores they are. And cheap ones at that.

You know why other talent-less hacks in previous eras made at least a living wage? They knew what they were. The ones that had delusions either printed their own newsletters or articles in shitty magazines that lasted a few months, got the hint and sunk into obscurity. A few went truly batshit, trying to be tyrants in the in their own tiny corner, until that corner disappeared. A few got lucky and rich, in which the press paid attention because they had money (some also went batshit and got rich. See L. Ron Hubbard, probably the 'greatest' talentless hack of all time). But now we've got Social Media where they can get their little badges and scream out to a bevy of other fucking re.tards who would otherwise never encounter them, inflating their self importance and allowing this ideological bubble. That when gets so viciously popped by the outside world who easily recognizes the talentless hack, flails into ego, in which other talentless hacks come to their aid. All this they do in their brand of fetishized, corporate 'art' that will be remembered like the pulp detective novel, but nowhere near as fondly. Because while you can brush up bad prose, bad art and animation is forever. Shit from the 1940s holds up better.

Here's my thing: Yeah, these cartoons are for kids. But are kids not allowed to have good art and decent animation? For fucks sake, cartoons in the 1980s and 1970s were better drawn and animated. I bet better fucking voice acted, I can only imagine since I am not even clicking on a trailer for this tripe. Yes, 90% of the cartoons from the 1980s were marketed for toys (though I fucking loved 'The Real Ghostbusters' and I remember a ton of episodes from that show. And it was for toys too, but it was better written and voiced than a lot of others). There was also this show which would be hilariously problematic if created today. I could remember the premise, but I couldn't remember the fucking name so I had to look up the name: ExoSquad. In the far future, humans genetically engineer a separate race to be bigger, stronger, to work as slaves in hot, terrible environments, Mars and Venus. (Hrmmm....) They rebel and bring humanity to the brink of extinction, but humans are somehow painted as the good guys. Even as a child I was like 'wtf, how are the alien slaves the bad guys'. That was kind of hilarious to me, but at the same time painted the 'oppressed becoming the oppressor' narrative. It was hilarious at just how telegraphed who was who, but you didn't recognize that as a child. But at the end of the day, it was a show to sell mechs to children. Holy fuck if that show was made today twitter would crash in a nuclear fucking explosion, let me tell you. (Side EDIT: I JUST fucking remembered, they even had an 'free thinking' alien on their side to act as the fucking Uncle Tom, holy shit. That's fucking hilarious).

But I digress. If we're going to give kids corporate crap to buy toys from, can it at least be well drawn and animated corporate crap? Do kids not deserve that? Do they deserve one single, terrible fucking art style to be shoved down their throats for their entire childhood? I mean, I at least got four or five. Or more, I don't remember, but it was sure as shit more than one. I'm tired of fucking seeing it in passing. Like Jesus, have some fucking standards. I don't care about the show, but the art...its a fucking dumpster fire you can't take your eyes away from. Its like the costumes from the Teen Titans Live-Action show. I don't care about the Teen Titans, or the comics or the cartoon. Or even the fucking show. But you look and you just go, 'Why, why the fuck are you doing this? Who approved this? How do they have a job? Why do they have a job? Am I going insane? Why does 30 year old shit look better than something drawn a week ago? Do I have dementia? Help me understand!' That's more of the reaction I think people are having, even people nostalgic for Thundercats.
Regarding the quality, I feel sorry for kids because almost everything now looks like shit. There's no competition left. The 1980's produced a constant flow of random shit, made by people desperate to outsell whatever all the other guys secretly had in production. Now there are about 3 toy companies, the products are almost all crap, and made for 20+ year old properties because nobody will finance anything new.

I used to feel weird buying toys for my nephew, because Minecraft and that figurine game were the only new properties out there, everything else was from my childhood. I can't think of any series from the 1950's-1960's that was still getting toys when I was a kid, except for Star Trek and top 10 super heroes. It felt kinda wrong.

Holy fuck, somehow they managed to ruin the one furry cartoon that everyone could appreciate. Wait, did I say somehow, I meant, I can't believe this didn't happen sooner.

I love how these people trying to cape for the bean mouth style are acting like those opposing it are all men in their 30s. I've seen more men in their late 20s-early 30s in the past couple hours protecting the art style rather than bashing it.
It's funny because I have a family member in her tweens who hates newer style of western animation. When the Powerpuff Girls reboot came out, she came up to me saying her childhood was ruined and how they should've just left PPG as it was and aired the original instead. To these guys, she's just the opinion of a 30 year old man.

I've seen a few threads on Twitter trying to say those who want to get into the art industry shouldn't bash the reboot because they might have to work on a show similar to that someday, but there's tons of professionals out there who knowingly bash on stuff they have worked on. It's all just a facade, they just don't like the negativity because they know someone who either has a similar art style or they want to get into Cartoon Network. Besides that, why do the opinions of non-animators affect you? People bash on musicians, video game developers, and movies all the time, and the people in those industries do the same thing, why is it bad now?
They don't care about the feelings of children either, that's just them trying to soften the blow.

Also, this is fucking hilarious. The one non-white dude in the room looks like he was forced to sit there as a prop.

I don't even like thundercats and i think the old thundercats was... decent enough.. did it's job

also on the "the original was made to sell toys" thing:
'willy wonka and the chocolate factory' was made to sell candy... but it's still a good movie

This, apparently, is the show's producer:

wow, what happened to pebbles from the flintstones?

I've seen more men in their late 20s-early 30s in the past couple hours protecting the art style rather than bashing it.
because the guys protecting it are soyboys who think they aren't like other men, and are in fact nice guys all women should feel safe around

you know.. pedophiles and rapists.

Kaffirs of Kiwifarms I suggest we open up a betting pool.

We each list the 5 old cartoons we think are most likely to get a Calarts update, and whomever wins (i.e. lists the most correct predictions) within the next 2 years gets a blowey-joey from every member of the moderation team and Null

Here is my list
1) He Man (because obvious fucking reasons)
2) Wacky Races (because cheapifying an already cheap series seems a no brainer for these tards)
3) Dexters Lab (because PPG reboot demonstrated a crappy rehash of old CN shows makes shekels with zero effort)
4) The Jetsons (because i have this hunch that neo zeerust is coming as a trend)
5) Hey Arnold (because theres a movie out soon which will make execs roll the dice on a cheap new series)

Reboots are the fucking worst idea ever. Kill this. (that being said Thunder Cats already got a reboot years ago and it was dropped hard)

You can smell the soy from them. After a certain point, the styles begin to look too similar to other shows on the same network. In other words, they're not original.

how about this.

A reboot....of REBOOT!
reboot-heroes-toonami.jpg

Already happened just this year and nobody liked it.

5) Hey Arnold (because theres a movie out soon which will make execs roll the dice on a cheap new series)

Movie already came out and the creator was back at the helm, and it looked pretty faithful to the original series' art style.

Old Thundercats was very much a product of it's time. It's borderline unwatchable now.

This modern art style is bereft with laziness.

seeing the animation industry sperg out because of the reaction has been amazing. I'm eagerly awaiting the plethora of news articles calling everyone who dislikes this an egocentric, man-child.
