Chris was like "oh panda, are you ok??" because Australia's just one small place, I guess. It's stupid because Chris doesn't know anything about Australia. Not because the basic reaction was stupid. It's like hearing about a terrorist attack and calling up your family to make sure they're OK.

Regarding intelligence: Chris thinks really, really slowly if he's not practiced in the subject. Like if you were explaining three card monte to him, it'd take several minutes and you can almost hear the gears turning in his head.

Now, he thinks swiftly in any sort of con he engages in himself regularly. Chris does just fine with money and numbers. Logic, not so much.

I was a nightmare at school. I had shitty parents, childhood onset Bipolar disorder and the mix of that made me a complete liability and no teacher wanted me. I was almost put into a special school due to my disruption before I dropped out at fourteen. This is years ago now, but when I got back into education and got my shit together, the first year back in a school environment, I spent in a special class. I hated it, thought I was above it, but it really helped me realise a lot of things. I look back on it fondly. There were people in there that were way more retarded than Chris WITH the added hurdle of English being their second language, plus a lot of people like me. I feel like an a-log, but fuck Bob & Barb for pussyfooting around him. One of those Chris-like kids works full time in a hardware store now and lives in supported accommodation. Kinda fucks me up thinking about what could have been for CWC.

That's actually a really good point. While I wasn't exactly blaming his parents for how he turned out (I was just saying it was probably their greatest mistake, hindsight or not), you aren't wrong... It's easy for me to criticize them knowing what I know now, I suppose that at one point in time I guess Chris was acting like a "standard sperg" and not like a complete nutcase. But they couldn't have been completely clueless to the fact that mainstreaming wasn't working like they had hoped, right? I'm trying to be fair to them, but I don't think they did everything they could (or maybe should have) for Chris in order for him to live a normal life.

Was it obvious during high school that "mainstreaming' wasn't working? He was passing classes, had a couple hobbies, and didn't have any really big issues. Again, if we go back and only look at the information available at the time, I think it is reasonable to conclude Chris was an unremarkable special needs guy getting through life with a few accommodations made to help him. And that he was being prepared well for a lifetime of being an unremarkable special needs guy getting through life with a few accommodations.

I know they don't. But they do help to teach you how to interact with others, how to manage autism, and other basic behaviors/etc. that Chris obviously never learned. I'm not saying that 100% he wouldn't have been trolled or bullied, or that he'd have a perfectly normal life. I doubt he would. But they might have taught him not to give strangers all of his personal information, etc. lol. He might have a better life.

I admit that it's hard to say, but I don't think he'd be worse off. And yeah, better parenting certainly would have helped, but that just feeds into my point: his parents didn't really try.

One of the most harmful results of the mainstreaming may have been Chris' obsession with fitting in with normal people. I think that his aversion to other special needs people and programs geared towards them has really hampered him in various ways. And it seems reasonable that the lengths his father went to mainstream him was a source for that.

Chris' personal information was never the problem. If Chris gets catfished, and he believes he's talking to his girlfriend, he'll just give her the information.
That's my entire point. Maybe he wouldn't do that? Lol. That's all I'm saying. I realize it's pointless speculation, but still. I can't help but feel that a better upbringing would have helped.

EDIT:

Like when he raged during the Song of Christian about failing english and basically threatening his teachers? Having to pay (or otherwise persuade) other kids to befriend him? writing his assignments in other languages, etc. That was him "passing classes", "making friends", and not having "any big issues"?

I wasn't there. I don't know all the details, but that doesn't sound like progress to me...

And yeah lol. I wonder why he felt so pressured to fit in? Might it be that his parents approach/mainstreaming approach failed and he only became more aware of how different he was and felt alienated as a result? Idk. It's hard to say. But it's certainly possible. I agree with that for sure.

He probably felt pressured to fit in not because of Borb but because he couldn't get what he wanted, friends, China, adulation, respect. Also, because he's always had some weird fetish about having neurotypical friends/lovers. Although Borb did not directly force Chris to fit in, I think they also hammered into his head the joys of the human experience through having friends. Just like with having sex, it is a ritual that needed to be completed to unlock ultimate power.

You generally provide your personal information to your significant others.
Yeah, maybe they can get more than my name and basic info about who I am once I've actually met them in person. I don't know about you, but I'm not giving out my home address, nudes, full on sex-tapes, etc. to people I've only met online though... There's a line.

I think it was probably a combination. Instead of being surrounded by people he could relate to, he was surrounded by people who were going about their own lives, making their own friends and relationships, etc. Some people with special needs could thrive in that environment, making their own friends, developing their own relationships, etc. but I don't think Chris was that person.

So It doesn't seem far-fetched to me to think he might have felt alienated, because he realized he didn't have any of that. Combine that sort of general experience with how he was raised (like you said) and how he became who he is becomes a bit clearer, I think.

People are doing a lot of stuff online nowadays. Full time remote work, for example, is a thing. (Which involves exchanging bank details and all sorts of trust like that.)

Wanting to fit in and be popular is a goal for like half of all high school students. On the surface, I don't think this a particularly weird thing for an autistic teenager to obsess about. I wouldn't be surprised if Chris picked up the idea from some 90s sitcom or a John Hughes movie.

I would be really shocked if Chris was even average IQ. And not just because he is autistic, but he legitimately seems below average intelligence. He is the same guy who made up the fact that Panda died because she was in Australia and there were wildfires there, despite the fact she was hundreds of miles from the fires (and that's a pretty big leap in logic). He's the same guy who thought Molvania was real, even though he couldn't find it on a globe. He also took years to finish a CAD certificate

He's the same guy that thought that putting a towel over his head was the ultimate disguise.

Chris has printed Bryan's books and is sending them to his patrons, maybe, if they buy his eBay crap.

I don't know what "making out" a book means, but didn't Bryan say he didn't want anything to do with Chris anymore, is it unfair that Chris is sending Bryan's hard work to *his own* Patreon subscribers, right after Bryan complained that Chris receives more money than he does?

Is Bryan already doxed?

I think it'd be OK (and not at all weenish, which some people might accuse him of) if he DMCA'd Chris over this.

The two downsides are:
  • he'd have to dox himself
  • a set of spergs would chimp at him. perhaps a small set, but they'd still exist

I thought Bryan or Chris had mentioned Chris would be allowed to do something to monetise the comics, even though it was Bryan's work. It was on Twitter like a month or so before the comic was finished if I'm remembering right.

Hmm, almost like getting entangled with Chris and devoting a lot of time and energy to a project related to him is a bad idea and probably won't work out in your favor. Who could've guessed?

Wait, Chris is printing them without the author's permission?

Chris is in the situation because people much smarter than him, and more organized than him, are able to run rings around him. And then beyond that, everyone in his life is incompetent at intervention. He really shouldn't be permitted online without supervision.

He had been kicked out of school, banned from multiple retailers, arrested for loitering, and living on the tugboat for years before the internet discovered him. The defining aspects of his personality and life were already set in stone long before the organised trolling began.

The coordinated trolling of him was not inevtible and wouldn't have been nearly as devastating if it wasn't for his massive ego. Pre-trolling, he was leaving business cards at the UVA library and spamming PVCC with his signs and newsletters. He was clearly desperate for recognition. When he got attention on ED, he went overboard and gave out completely unsolicited personal information in a bid for attention.

I do agree with you that he shouldn't have been online without supervision, but Chris was the most tech savvy person in the house. There's very little Borb could have done to stop him. Look at how he pretended to turn off the webcam when Bob was yelling at him.
