Now taking bets on whether Wu gets more primary votes than ballot signatures.
The number before of after they get challenged in court? Who am I kidding. Man of the People Steve Lynch is going to continue to make the right choice and not acknowledge John. Representative Stephen Lynch: right on John Flynt, right for District 8.

I'm bummed we have to wait until September 4th for Bri to get politically pantsed.

I don't see it that way.

First I'll say that I really doubted that John would get on the ballot. I assumed, despite him announcing his candidacy the day after the last election, that he would have either not have bothered to hire a company to help him until it was too late, or that he would have blown through all the money on idiotic shit and not had enough cash on hand to pay for it. I think my reasoning was sound, but it seems that the last minute fund raising drive and desperate actions were actually successful, and it looks like John just managed to squeak by. I imagine it was entirely Frank's doing. We know you are reading this so: Congrats Frank!

Anyway, I think this is great news. It means we can look forward to months more of this circus. It also raises the specter of a debate, the possibility of some kind of slapfight between John and the other scrappy contender, and increases the likelihood of John saying something so idiotic that it attracts some kind of mainstream bi-partisan condemnations. We can also look forward to the, albeit remote, possibility that the media or an opponent might actually lift a finger and delve into John's actual background.

Don't think about the end. We are just getting started.

Same my dude. I think I finally know how the Never Trump people felt in 2016 when they were constantly saying "well he made it this far, but he's gonna fuck up next time!"

John, you have beaten all the odds. Let meme magic guide you to your final humiliation.

I'm not sure if sigs are ever validated unless other guy contests it or something .

The Registrar of Voters in each municipality in the district has to certify the signatures of those who signed Flynt/Wu's ballot petition and claim to live in that registrar's municipality. The registrar will not certify the signatures of those who are not registered Democrats, those who signed with a fake name, those who listed an incorrect a dress, those who live outside the municipality, and so on.

The registrars will certify and report to the state the signatures that survive this scrutiny.

If the Massachusetts Democratic machine wants to keep Flynt/Wu off the ballot, those signatures are going to be examined with a microscope.

After that process is finished, Flynt/Wu's opponents can step forward and challenge signatures.

Also, as another poster has noted, the Massachusetts Secretary of State's office strongly recommends that candidates for the U.S. House submit 4,000 signatures if they want to be certain of surviving the vetting and challenge procedures. By submitting 2,900 signatures, Flynt/Wu still risks failing to make the primary ballot. If that happens -- and I hope it does -- the chimpout will be epic.

Exactly this. Anyone thinking that John is already on the ballot is guilty of taking one of his Twitter statements at face value.

John’s followers are even dumber than John which is not surprising really. You have to be stupid to be hoodwinked by him.

Calling John a “technologist” means fucking nothing. John doesn’t understand anything about “tech”. He’s an enthusiast who reads Apple blogs and the occasional wiki article to sound important when he makes a generic policy statement like he did on cryptology.

Okay, what about the people who actually live in your district?

But for real. He keeps acting like he's running for president or some shit, you can't fix nationwide issues alone in Congress, absolute fucking mutant.

I can't wait until his signatures get the boot. I have to assume most people signing are registered democrats, the ones that aren't are likely registered COMMIES, which could make things interesting. The big thing that I see invalidating them are people signing that don't live in the 8th district, and even going through a few towns, Abington, Bridgewater, Brockton and Whitman, while running errands today, I didn't see shit for support for wu in any of those towns, I'd be surprised if most people knew he was running because he's a literally who

You and Warren really need to read each other's shitposts, John.

I hope Wu survives the vetting process all that he can continue to be a monumental fuck up.

That’s what I’ve been hoping for. If he makes it on the ballot he’s a “candidate” and people can’t give him soft interviews or ignore his past gaffs. All his dirty laundry will be aired and he’ll have to own up to his contradicting statements and actions. One gaff/lie will be his undoing and everyone will find out the truth about Wu is John Flynt.

This isn't the Presidential Election. This is a Congressional primary. It isn't even a hotly contested one or in some kind of pivotal district. Crackpots like John go up against entrenched incumbents all the time. John needs to able to control the narrative so he isn't going to be seeking out debates and media exposure unless they're carefully vetted. Lynch understands that acknowledging John just gives him exposure and legitimacy he wouldn't have otherwise. Local papers will do puff pieces about The Young Congressional Candidate of Who Beat Gamergate and is Set to Rock Washington because journalism is dead. Most people in his district will see John's name when they go to vote in the primary and wonder who the hell he is.

Sorry to segue a bit here but wil wheaton's terminal retardation and Wu's continued idiocy and lack of awareness inspired me to put a name to the phenomena they are part of. Spoilered for spergwall

Basically there is a very specific class of people who consider themselves and eachother "influencers". Not rich enough in wealth or skill or power to be considered powerful on a real world level, but rich enough and with an amplified enough voice by either media or academia to convince themselves that they hold sway over society and are thus destined to shape it in their own image, destroy what they declare to be social evils, and eventually rally the grateful proles and overthrow those who actually hold power in some nebulous way. Think a more hipster version of "the middle" from goldstein's book in 1984.

These people are near universally formed of those born with a silver spoon up their ass to a greater or lesser extent, with rich parents, trust funds, family connections aplenty, and whom go into various forms of media thinking it will get them the "real" power and influence they think their genius warrants them with minimum effort and graft on their part. Self made men and women from the working and middle classes might occasionally be naive enough to believe that this idiot fringe is where true power lies, but overwhelmingly this class will be formed of and by those born into money and privilege who are simultaneously narcissistic and naive enough to believe that they are "destined for greatness" without needing to work for it.

They invariably band together with like minded pompous authoritarian brats in their field and beyond, latch on to a "trendy" dogma or cause they can use to present themselves as morally perfect crusaders against inequity, and use their combined numbers and wealth and power within media/academia to intimidate everyone else there into toeing the line for fear of destroying their careers and lives, often gaining total control of media institutions and organisations or college campuses, despite only representing a minority within these organisations.

Those who hold actual power care nothing for them and their demagoguery, but do buy into the assumption that they do hold influence over the proles and thus should be courted and ostensibly pandered to in order to ensure their own operations and political games keep going without interference, sometimes abandoning any notion of trying to win over the proles in favour of much more relateable and rich influencers.

Where the "bubble" part of this comes into effect is the fact that while they are obsessed with coercing outsiders to submit to their way of doing things, they are utterly blind and ignorant to how those outside their petty fiefdoms actually live, think, and function, never rising beyond the inbuilt assumption that they themselves represent the vast majority and that whatever they do will receive nothing but cheers of admiration from the peasants. They spend their lives from cradle to grave surrounded either by pampered moderately rich people in their media cliques, or by pampered moderately rich people trying not to incur their wrath for the sake of their careers. They receive nothing but positive affirmation from all IRL directions no matter how hilariously they are fucking up.

Thus when they meet not only determined resistance but active criticism and mockery from groups of proles, their first and only solution is to declare them subhuman hate filled vermin who want nothing more than to rape and murder them and their families, and to enslave society in a depraved nightmare world, and use their interlinking media/academia circlejerks to rapidly have them denounced across the media as dangerous monsters. After all, they know that they and their friends are perfect, so only the most despicably evil or stupid reprobate could dare to attack them. Never quite understanding how fucking stupid this looked to the majority of proles, or how much of a fanatical societal backlash against them and their cause will be incited by their idiocy.

Once this backlash starts, some of the influencers will immediately jump ship to the "other side" in an effort to save their own positions and retain their influence in the new order. Some will go quiet and lay low till the dust settles and then pretend like they were always part of this backlash. And some of the most especially blind and narcissistic will double, triple, and quadruple down all the shit that made people hate them, and assume that this will allow them to finally ascend to full political power...only to be hilariously humiliated when their personal political vehicles net zero support at the ballot box.

This is the story.....of how the religious right took over much of media backed by a right wing government back in the 1980s until society finally got sick of that shit in the 1990s. And then again in the early 2000s. Also when the left wing version of this happened in the early-mid 1990s and early-mid 2010s.

Basically every "cause" lolcow from SJW to fundie to whatever can be declared either a part of this class (if they get unironic support have influence within it) or is aspiring to become part of this class (if they get ignored and have no influence within it).

In the case of Wu, despite being objectively speaking, an absolute nobody to essentially the whole of society, Wu is still treated as one of the tribe by the likes of Wheaton (also an absolute nobody to essentially the whole of society) and thus someone whose endeavours are always righteous and worthy, and who will "OBVIOUSLY" win the coming election solely because she recognised by his blogger hipster peers to be on his team, and since his team speaks for the silent majority of humanity, this silent majority will all march out to vote her in. The fact that she is a 7 foot tall snarling ghoulgeist with a ratwig and dentures who speaks like buffalo bill and insists on being the most unlikable person in the state doesnt even come into the equation
