That was what I heard. I don't get why they couldn't just make the character less prominent and have Roswell do the odd cameo, or do what Futurama did with Lucy Liu and have her record a bunch of generic lines in one go that they could use. I don't know a whole lot about how the voice acting business goes, though, so I could be talking a load of crap.

Well, when you have to cram a celebrity cameo in practically every other week, you're bound to run out of ideas for characters.

You could also just record it over the phone. That's what Futurama did for their Beastie Boys cameo.

I can't imagine she couldn't have just done that or even recorded a bunch of stuff at once. She mainly just voiced Maude, Helen Lovejoy, and Lisa's teacher Ms. Hoover. None of them are even in many episodes, and if they are they barely speak. Maude got killed off, but they just had a different person to the voices of the other two.
 
The only guaranteed way to leave The Simpsons and not have someone else take over your characters is to be murdered by your wife.

To be perfectly blunt, eleven-year old me shipped Ralph/Lisa and hoped she'd marry the retard. And then the multiple Future episodes happened. Fuck you writers! Oh wait, the original writers left in the early '90's.
 
The episode where Lisa has a crush on Nelson is also pretty good, and it makes a good challenge for Lisa.

At least, Nelson is a more memorable character than "vegan/college student/musician hipster voiced by annoying celebrity nº20200101".
 
Lisa's Wedding is a classic too.

They had plans to have Troy return for the movie using some unused lines from the gambling episode. I assume they didn't go through with that idea because it's incredibly tasteless and even the modern writers have their limits.

That episode also had one of the best lines from Nelson's friends.

"You kissed a girl!"
"That is soooo gay!"

That and if it has Ian Maxtone-Graham in the opening credits. If that name is present, you can change the channel. You won't be missing anything of value. Barring the first season or so of him joining the team. He didn't have much sway then to fuck the show up too much.

When they did the marathon a few years ago, I remember feeling sad when I realized they were getting to the last of Hartman's episodes
