For fuck's sake, Steven can barely reach a kitchen counter now.

whenever I feel like a bad artist I just remind myself of Dobson

Just so we're all on the same page for Dobson's eventually fuckery:

THIS is stretch and squash. Peridot's face has been deliberately pulled upwards and downwards to emphasize to her yelling. I'm to understand this is a pivotal scene in which the stills are often affectionately mocked for being funny looking, as stretch and squash often does in stills. (See also this oft mocked example from Overwatch.)

THIS is off model:

Show this to any animation company worth their salt and they'll not only laugh at this, but ream them out for said inconsistency. I know Rebecca Sugar says that she wants the artists to be creative, but said creativeness is not helping her case with stuff like this.

Doesn't help that most of said boarders are flat out talentless hacks with little to no experience in the industry.

Oh god, it was one of the brown phase drawings? Also I have a feeling that heads/faces of Mario and Peach have been heavily "referenced" from somewhere else. They're the only things that don't look nearly as sloppy as everything else in this picture.

I wanna go on a limb and say it's based/traced on a frame from the Nintendo Power Super Mario World comic.

I haven't seen it since I was eight, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say there's a frame in there that has Peach look exactly like that.

I'm pretty sure it is too, it looks just like the style the comic artist drew her in. But just the head, which makes it more obvious compared to everything else.

The brown tone of the colors makes it worse because the Mario series always features such bright and vibrant colors. This looks like he dropped it in some muddy water.

I'm not even an artist and even I can tell this is fucking awful. All the colors are so muted, which is a shame since everything in the Mario series is very bright and colorful, it's like he completely drained all of the life out of such a fun goofy world and left it as a husk that vaguely resembles what it once was. And all the designs are so ridiculously off-model because he refuses to do anything to even slightly deviate from his usual style they all look like characters from a generic 80's cartoon cosplaying as Mario characters. It all just looks so bland and soulless, it's seriously sad that he genuinely believes that this is the work of a skilled artist. It's almost like he's the villain from some old kids movie that loathes creativity and joy and thinks that things should simply stay in a mediocre, "good enough" setting.

Someone could tell dobson "That yoshi in there looks like piss or shit or both" and they'd be right.

What the fuck is going on here? Seriously, forget the puke-worthy color palette and off-model design, this piece has some terrible composition.
The colored dots on the ground make me think it's supposed to be one of the Mario Party games. I can't tell you if it's an accurate depiction or not however because the only spinoff games I play is Mario Kart.
