I like Junji Ito's work and am looking forward to watching it (I was happy to see the episodes will be full-length this time), but I'm a fucking pussy about it 'cause one of his works legitimately disturbs me, and I have a feeling that one will be part of the collection, but I don't know which episode. So I'm trying to get it to where I'll be watching it with my brother(s) but he wants to wait until it's done. :/

The Balloon heads thing?

=======================

I have to admit. I'm liking the look of the winter lineup and seem to have quite a few in my Crunchyroll Queue ready for me to enjoy this week.

A Place further than the universe has piqued my interest because it was very well drawn.

PlagueOfGripes did another DragonBallGripes episode, this one on why the time travel in Dragon Ball is bullshit.

Nah, that shit's cool. It's Amigara Fault I was talking about and I'm not sure if it being animated will make it less disturbing.
I've always thought Amigara Fault was a lot more comedic than horrifying. Ito tends to have that issue where he goes too far sometimes in his stories and they end up being more goofy than anything.
The one that always scared me the most was The Long Dream. It's a very surreal story that is also easily to relate to due to how dreams work. Perception of time in dreams is something that can vary wildly and the idea of living out life times or more in dreams just to wake up and face reality is pretty horrifying in its own way.

I get what you mean, and the amount of memes that came from it is proof you can find humor in anything (and I love those memes), but there was just something really unsettling about it that I still can't shake off to this day.

Meanwhile I am disappointed that Junji missed a golden opportunity in Uzumaki to involve the horrors of flushing toilets.

I think with Ito’s work is each story is made with a very specific fear or phobia in mind. If said thing doesn’t really scare you, you’ll find the story boring or comical. But if that one story happens to nail your fear, then god damn, is it going to freak you out.

I want to like it but I want crude thick lines on Devilman like the comics. I can't get into crude thin lines for Devilman.

Unrelated I'm still more than a little weirded out by the idea that there's a bkub anime.

Yeah, I just checked some scenes on yt and looks like shit.
nagai's original style had more personality. Even the oavs look 10 times better, despite beeing at least 20+ years old.

I did not read Devilman Crybaby manga but the anime is the best thing I've watched in years with its insane, but well-laid out plot escalation to the climax and resolution. I had no preconceptions coming into this and someone pleaded with me to watch it and i thought it'd be a generic "guy gets power of the demons and fights demon of the week" and it so, so, far beyond any expectations I had its amazing and dont let yourself get spoiled by anything and the best way to do that is binge watching in a sitting or two right now!

Devilman Crybaby was okay.
It had a strong start at the beginning and had some developments for characters that I really liked like Miko who I personally thought was one of the better characters in that show. It really suffered from typical problems I find in anime like ramping up plot events to the point where everything is so over the top and nonsensical which makes it harder to relate to the work personally. Then there were issues with characters like the way the mother, father, and son in that anime turned out which was mostly hilarious with one sadder moment with the father towards the end. Characters also completely changing because the plot demanded it was hilarious as well like the two rapper dudes.
And man I don't even know where to begin on where that anime sits in terms of messages or themes because it got really messy at the end.

Started Devilman Crybaby tonight, only first three episodes thus far. The first episode was pretty derpy-looking, like I almost couldn't believe this is something Masaaki directed, the show and character designs just didn't really feel like it was supposed to be his project. Then I looked up the character designer and suddenly the Flip Flappers comparison makes sense and it apparently fixed itself by the second episode so it's not very derpy anymore. If anything, while the dub's not bad in the slightest (minus the fact they didn't bother making up their own English rap lyrics, fucking lazy), the animation's definitely its biggest highlight.

I'm also someone who hasn't read the manga so I'm not sure how many of the demon designs are of Go Nagai's, never mind that I have no freaking idea if the original source material is this sexually-charged. Hoo boy, no wonder they contracted with Netflix lol.

I've also been watching Soul Eater for the first time for the past week. I think it's a pretty interesting, if not original idea for a shounen and the dub has to be one of FUNimation's best, but while it's been a fun watch thanks to Studio Bones' animation being taken to such a grand scale, it's alright so far. I'm nearing the halfway point, though, so my opinion might change within the next couple of viewings.

Devilman has nudity in it. Also, it's a big inspiration for Shin Megami Tensei. Also, Seven Seas Entertainment is going to release the manga in the states for the first time this year.

I knew it was full of nudity, I just wasn't sure how sexual it really was. Especially didn't know about how much of a porn addict Akira is given how he's super-no-homo for Ryo. That's actually great news, though, about time if you ask me.
