I require fresh fried squid but every seafood joint is closed right now.
I haven't had any fried seafood in months and it's bothering me.
I need my fish tendies.

I think social nihilism having increasing prevalence is a big part of it, too. I don't care what faith system you have or if you have one, but going full hard-materialist anti-mysticism can't be good for a society that isn't advanced enough to not need it anyway. I remember back around the time Danny Phantom was on air, actually, that "Ultimate Fate of the Universe" started getting some attention outside of cosmological circles and the internet has since been stuffed to the gills of people that will be quick to tell you, regardless of whether or not anyone asked for their opinion, that nothing matters and the universe is doomed anyway. Sure there are people that get along just fine and don't give a fuck (see: Stoicism or Deists like Einstein) but the average person is neither of those, and the sort of unstable people that are barely remaining functional in society without hurting people really don't need to lurk the internet and constantly get the doom and gloom gospel all the time, because they start doing shit like creating radical esoteric meme religions (/pol/) or their brain just teeters off the deep end and they go batshit insane AND hurt other people because if nothing matters, they're going to forge their own faith and any harm they do is ultimately irrelevant in a world in which there will, sooner or later, be no-one to judge them.

It breeds a society of people that can't possibly have the time to care about anyone else because nobody else logically matters.

It didn't matter who/how many people Randy killed to him because the idea of other people having the same depth of being as he had wasn't comprehensible to him. All he'd ever hoped to have was himself and his warped religion, and you couldn't convince him that anything else matters. At least, not on the internet of all places.

People just huddle together in their own cliques/echo chambers to minimize the effort required to spend what time they do have enjoyable. There's no incentive to grow up or mature because there's no valid system of value to place on doing anything other than jerking it to ponies/Danny Phantom/whatever.
