After decades of relegating its LGBTQ characters to the sidelines, Marvel really turned things around with America and Iceman, its first two ongoing series featuring queer characters as their titular leads. Both books have been important additions to Marvel’s ever-expanding portfolio, but it seems as if the time has come for at least one of them to end. March’s comics solicitations are out this week and a number of titles including America are conspicuously missing, which heavily implies that the titles have been canceled. This afternoon, Marvel editor Heather Antos confirmed that Gwenpool, another title missing from the March solicits, was definitely canceled, further suggesting that any titles missing from the lineup as of today are done for.

"oh boy *salivates*, you gonna finish that?"

I just want Odinson back as the 'main' Thor and for Marvel not to fuck up Loki's character development over the last several years by having him revert to Chaotic Evil again. Add that to the already-revealed return of Logan, and that's all I'll need from Marvel at this point.

There's nothing wrong with adding diverse elements to stories - Xavier's disability was a great way to depict a marginalized group in mainstream cape comics - but it shouldn't be an end in itself. SJWs have made general fandom so toxic now, regardless of what fandom it is.

Add one more comic to the bonfire... She-Hulk is getting the ax.

I'm torn about this because I actually like She-Hulk... when she is being written by competent people. The latest iteration of She-Hulk had Shulkie dealing with PTSD for about the entire year due to the events of... one of the mega-crossovers I don't even care about which one because none of them matter for shit. So long story short- probably for the best they took this series behind the barn.

Next time they give She-Hulk a title, maybe, I dunno, make her the strong, self-assured badass that she is instead of spending an entire fucking year of her moping around in her apartment and going to group therapy.

Heck the "Hulk needs Therapy" angle could even work, as long as it didn't move at the glacial pace and ultimately go nowhere....

I like how her first enemy in that series was a flamboyant gay guy who ran a YouTube cooking show that she watched and that guy ended up becoming a falling apart version of the Hulk because his cake was radioactive.

There was also an issue where she dated a Nice Guy who turned out to be a robot built to kill her so she destroyed him and the whole restaurant that happened to be full of robots. That was the first issue where it switch backed to becoming a comedy like She-Hulk is normally associated with.

I'm sorry, but that sounds really fucking stupid. Too fucking stupid to even woek remotely well... Even for something that deals with radiation / science jargon on a regular basis like Hulk/She-Hulk aims to do.

It doesn't.

Here's the D&C "review" of the Shulkie Cake Monster comic... and keep in mind since it's a D&C video, the production value is bottom of the barrel. Then again, for the subject of the video, it really doesn't deserve too much.

I'm glad other folks mentioned this comic especially, as this issue was the exact issue that I became completely fed up with Marvel's bullshit as of late. There was an abundance of cringe in the comics with characters like "Iron Man's Sassy Black Apprentice", and "Gay Space Latina Who Is Gay And a Latina In Case You Didn't Know She Was A Gay Latina from SPAAAAAACE" , but looking at this comic, I just had enough. Not only did they completely neuter a fun character, but the script was shit, and sweet merciful shit the art. I mean, there is some talent, but good Lord the composition is ass, the coloring is even worse-so, and while the artist can do some decent facial reactions, everything feels canned, like it was traced from some reference.

But apparently Marvel thought this was an acceptable work to publish, print, and charge 3 or 4 bucks for.

Rant aside... it is shit like Shulkie's cancellation which gives me some hope... but Marvel has a loooong way to go to regain my trust.

Truth be told, I think that a character like Riri Williams could actually work if Marvel was competent enough to have her be Tony's sidekick, have her defer to his guidance, have her work for the respect and admiration she's been spoon fed from the get-go, and have her experience losses or mistakes so that she could learn from them and become a better hero.

Basically, have characters like her be more like the superheroes that have been around for decades.

They still have red-Shulkie and red-hulk to make that, trying that to she hulk wasn't going to work.
They don't, both Red Hulks have been done away with for a few years now and currently have no powers. Betty and her dad are still alive, just not relevant at the current moment especially since Banner is still dead. We have "a" Red Hulk in USAvengers but he's nothing like Ross.

I LOVED Dan Slott's run with Jen in the early 2000s. It was fun, had a great supporting cast, and balanced action with interesting courtroom drama. The She Hulk comic from a few years back was boring, and the artist drew Jen has if she was a cross eyed fish. This latest run has been nothing but Jen moping, which should be left to her cousin Bruce.

I knew the problem was bad and that it was hurting Marvel's sales, but I had no idea just how badly these comics were doing, and it's honestly pretty hilarious to see these people shrieking about their ""favorite"" comics being removed when it's so painfully obvious that almost no one was buying them. This isn't some LGBTQ+ slaughter-fest, this is economic reality going all American History X to the Social Justice crowd because Marvel doesn't want to fucking murder itself to pander to a mob that refuses to give it a single dime.

For reference, a respectable range for a comic book to hover around is anywhere from 25k-80k, depending on the character in question. The highest sales ever recorded for an individual comic book was X-Men Vol. 2, #1, with 8,186,500 copies sold. A very important distinction to remember is that shipping numbers are not sale numbers. 10,000 of these units may have shipped, but fewer than 10,000 sold, meaning that many comic retailers wound up saddled with hundreds of comic books that they just could not sell to the general public.

If that doesn't drive the point home that pandering to the Tumblr mob never results in meaningful dividends for a major company, consider this: Not only are the Aquaman comics out-selling these with an average of 44,868~ copies sold per issue, but a comic book named fucking SCOOBY APOCALYPSE out-sold every single one of these SJW comics by more than 300%-500% in total, with an average of 29,804~ copies sold per issue.

I absolutely love that capitalism is beginning to whip itself back around to bite these people in the ass. They got everything they asked for, everything, but they forgot the most important part of keeping their "favorite" franchises alive: If you don't vote with your wallets, you get to watch them die. Welcome to goddamn capitalism, Tumblr.

Then the "new" audience would probably start spreading around rumors that Marvel secretly promotes slavery by saying that Riri can only be Stark's sidekick and could never be an actual super heroine of her own.

They don't care about profitability and quality, only the political leaning and propaganda value of every piece of mass media they witness.

Its only taken some of you 10 years to accept this.

About time they did something about this. Trying to focus almost entirely on the Social Justice types rarely works out well, for it often means alienating your loyal fanbase in favor of a vocal minority. A vocal minority that not only rarely buys your product (just make a few blogs praising you for being "progressive" or "woke"), but would also be more than happy to turn on your ass as soon as your company does something "problematic", such as having a sexual harassment scandal or even having a single comic issue depict something they deem "racist/sexist/etc.".
You took the words right out of my mouth, you also forgot to add one extra thing to the list of reasons they'll turn on you, that being "Cancelling comics pandering to them due to poor sales".
