After decades of relegating its LGBTQ characters to the sidelines, Marvel really turned things around with America and Iceman, its first two ongoing series featuring queer characters as their titular leads. Both books have been important additions to Marvel’s ever-expanding portfolio, but it seems as if the time has come for at least one of them to end. March’s comics solicitations are out this week and a number of titles including America are conspicuously missing, which heavily implies that the titles have been canceled. This afternoon, Marvel editor Heather Antos confirmed that Gwenpool, another title missing from the March solicits, was definitely canceled, further suggesting that any titles missing from the lineup as of today are done for.

In context, this is the joke they're complaining about being removed. It's a little chuckle at most, not some big statement about FUCK YOU TRUMP WHY DON'T YOU RETURN MY PHONE CALLS I HOPE YOU GET CANCER.

I'm not sure why they would bother removing that. It's not very funny, but it's at least a mild sensible chuckle.

If it's part of a general corporate "okay we're done with this SJW bullshit" signal I get it, though.

I've seen people theorize that it was removed just because Trump jokes are overplayed which is understandable. My personal take on it is because it's from the not-Fantastic Four book which currently has the Thing and Human Torch dealing with the loss of their family (They don't know they're still alive), too many jokes would fuck with the tone of the story though it's a very Spider-Man joke.

That sounds like a reasonable explanation to me. They haven't stated anything.

I'd personally agree with the fact that it's probably cause of too many low quality Trump jokes spoiling the stew for everyone else.

Just make a new superhero, make them a total badass with awesome powers and an intriguing backstory, and then make them queer. Do your fucking job.

Why would you even make Trump President in your fictional super hero world?
It doesn’t make sense and it’s always pure cringe when they insert real world events like 9-11.

Marvel has tried to roughly pace their stories with the real world, but as you said, it leads to cringe when they try to crowbar in IRL events and politics into a world that has far bigger problems.

Part of the reason is to appeal to their audiences, which are largely American, but another part is that Marvel has never really been shy about using their fictional version of reality as a commentary on reality itself, but the quality of their attempts has nosedived into the ground quite hard of late.

Wasn’t there that one comic that literally had a superhero saving Hilary from an assassination attempt or something. Pretty sure the hero was female, blond and heavyset and the entire thing was just a giant ego-stroking for Hilary.

Yes, but published by Valiant not Marvel. Hero takes selfie with Hillary at the end, because of course she does.

The big two have always used the real president whenever it has to come up in stories, at most they might put him in shadows but you still know who it is. The only exception to this I can think of was back in the 2000s when DC decided to make Lex Luthur president. After he went crazy and disappeared, they had at least two fictional presidents before going with Obama.

The fuck's her super power? The ability to eat a box of krispy kremes in under a minute?

Obama is also Superman in one of the DC's alternative earth's.

Faith is a funny character. So she's a Harbringer, which is Valiant's version of mutants except all their super powers are some form of psionic manipulation. In her case, she can levitate herself and others. That's it, no other powers, just flight and levitation. So naturally, the first thing her fat ass does when she gets her powers is use them to float everywhere.
