There is a system already in place, you can request expedited processing of your transaction (I'm not familiar with how this works, just that it exists and is the only way transactions happen on a retail time scale). So presumably it'll keep shambling on after the last coin is mined out. But more likely, as you said, it'll be replaced by something else.

Responded to this in the other thread since we're getting a bit off-topic

Wu is still going on about Bitcoin, also his critics are all the right wing just waiting to smear him with every word he says, which is totally why politicians have PR people. Also it's only the right wing that does this.

Assuming current trends are going to continue even when that would be literally fucking impossible is one of the dumbest things a dumb motherfucker can do.

So, who else besides me thinks Frank sees hookers on the side?
The thought of some poor working gal trying to fight back her tears and muffle her cries while a small, chubby Asian man is on top of her screaming madly for absolutely no logical reason and keeps insisting that she wears a cephalopod costume makes me very sad.

So now that Brianna has made a proper ass out of himself, will our news media awaken from their torpor and actually report something relevant about this obvious lunatic?

No. Serious news (which is an endangered species these days) will ignore John as still completely irrelevant and not even an amusing enough joke candidate to cover.

Nevertheless, some super woke fucking idiot will give him free coverage at some point in the future as if he's actually a candidate and not just a freakish ghoul littering the landscape with stupidity. And they'll repeat his lies about being driven out of his home by a hashtag. And being a "software engineer." And having degrees in all kinds of shit despite him never having gotten even one.

And yet those same serious news outlets would seize upon any bizarre statement by any prospective "lawmaker" (a silly euphemism for some random candidate for some obscure legislature) if it fit their narrative.

As much as I'd love to see Wu bumble her way through a debate with Stephen Lynch or hear some of the inane shit she'd say to the press, I don't want this cunt getting any press or attention. I want her campaign to end before she can even get the chance to wrangle up the dumbest voters in District 8.

If you're expecting Moon Rocks 2: Bitcoin Boogaloo, then no. Moon rocks worked as an amusing joke article for news outlets to report because even the Average Joe knows that you can't just flick a tactical pebble from the moon and nuke Australia. The same Average Joe, however, probably doesn't know the first thing about bitcoins or at the very most has only heard about them in passing, so Brianna's idiocy isn't immediately apparent to most outsiders in this situation.

Yeah, on the whole it's probably best not to broadcast his cthulhoid countenance. That might be all he needs in order to become a sort of Television Bloody Mary.

It's worth pointing out that all these electricity usage assumptions come from a tiny site called digiconomist.net. The guy who runs it seems to have a vested interest in a Bitcoin competitor. His numbers assume that 60% of a miners revenue goes toward electricity which is ridiculously high considering most of the big miners are using hydro or geothermal in parts of the world that have little demand and high supply.

I guess I don't understand what everyone thinks is special about Bitcoin. If the price of Gold shot up to $30,000 next week, the world would seem enormous amounts of electricity consumption put toward mining it. When things in our economy become more valuable, we put more resources into getting them.

It's funny but you can find out what Brianna is going to tweet just by looking around the clickbait sites each morning. She reads them, finds whatever the target of the day is, and tweets out like an expert. I mean if the 26-year old journalism major at arstechnica.com said it, it must be true.

John always comes up with a unique spin, though, that even the clickbait guys wouldn't.

He'll see a story that if current trends (during what is probably one of the biggest bubbles in history) of spending electricity continued increasing in the way they have the last couple weeks (because of that obvious nearly asymptotic spike), if they continued for two years that way, they'd suck up the electricity of like two or three Denmarks or something.

Then John goes completely insane and decides Bitcoin is literally about to destroy the entire universe.
