Has John twatted about the Patreon changes at all? I haven't been able to bring myself to sift through his online thought landfill to see.

:achievement:to you @Peace and Harmony for subjecting yourself to that shit daily.

I've read that article and Wu must have the reading comprehension of a 2nd grader. It never says Bitcoin will use "all" the energy in the world in 2 years. It postulates that if Bitcoin continues its exponential growth it will use the same amount of energy as we're using today.

The proper interpretation of that speculation is that Bitcoin will effectively double our current energy consumption, not "use it all" - this is ignoring basic things like increased human energy output.

TL;DR: Brianna Wu is an idiot.

*shrug*

Mississippi politics have, since slavery "ended", been driven exclusively by hating niggers. They tolerate obscene corruption and moral depravity, so long as niggers get hated on.

Good on you, John, standing up for the little guy. So how's it going creating a plan to force everyone to use 2FA for their Social Security?

It's also disregarding that if it actually does cause such demand for electricity that this happens, the demand without lack of increased supply will inevitably raise the price of electricity to be more than is worth spending on Bitcoin. It also disregards that a lot of the electricity spent on Bitcoin is slack that wasn't going to be used for anything anyway.

John doesn't just fail to understand the protocol, he fails to understand basic economic principles you could explain to a third grader, at least if the third grader wasn't trained to shriek about mansplaining whenever anyone tried to explain something to him.

Eventually the blockchain reward (BTC) goes away when the last Bitcoin block is mined. After that, mining still has to take place to verify transactions and, presumably, so that miners are rewarded in transaction fees rather than actual new currency.

That will be number 21 million, in roughly 2140, in the unlikely event it hasn't been replaced by something more advanced by then.

There is a system already in place, you can request expedited processing of your transaction (I'm not familiar with how this works, just that it exists and is the only way transactions happen on a retail time scale). So presumably it'll keep shambling on after the last coin is mined out. But more likely, as you said, it'll be replaced by something else.

Very good, that's correct, Brianna. You shouldn't make fun of people because of where they came from because it's a lazy and mean way to tell a joke. However, it's still a novel concept called "humor" which is relatively harmless and actually serves a purpose, which is to entertain others. Now on the other hand, portraying those from the South as xenophobic and violent misogynists as per your standard modus operandi whenever you decide to further falsify your upbringing (or even in this very tweet) is also lazy and mean, and serves no practical purpose. But unlike humor, you present this as a truthful and accurate representation of the South which actually is as harmful as you believe jokes about the South can somehow be.

Cryptospergers will be shot on sight.

I'm going to get spergy because this is something I am versed in. China hasn't manipulated their currency in years. It's only something brought up by people who heard about it a decade ago (when they were doing it) and continue to use it because they think it makes them look smart.

Since China's economy has slowed, they have been investing more and more outside the country. So devaluing their own currency now is moronic which is why they don't fucking do it anymore. In fact, they do the complete opposite now and are buying back Yuan.

Looks like we're not done yet:

All of my fucking what.

She is basing this off a poorly written clickbait article in Grist where the author doesn't understand how Bitcoin works. Yes, I know you're shocked an environmental magazine wouldn't understand technology or economics.

To exceed the energy consumption just the United States uses, Bitcoin would have to reach $1 million in the next few years. If that somehow happens, it would be one of the most formative events in modern history. It would change our entire economic system. Aren't these kind of events worth the energy consumption? I don't hear anyone complaining about the energy consumption we use to power the internet.

Bitcoin also will decline in energy use long term. The reward for each block created halves every four years. That means the energy consumption will halve every four years. It's really just an issue in the short term and only if it continues to go up exponentially.

And for the record, I'm not some Bitcoin nut. I don't own any and don't know where the thing will end up. I just understand the basics of how it works. I also understand we use 10 times the power mining gold from the Earth so people can have shiny trinkets to wear. And that the person complaining about energy consumption just bought her 4th vehicle which gets a whopping 18 miles per gallon (5 less than the Porsche SUV she is crying about).

The thing that Wu doesn't get is that it's a decentralized virtual currency. This isn't regulating a handful of banks. The whole point of it was that a few rich shysters don't get to set the rules in their favor. There is nothing that could have been done to "nip it in the bud" because governments have little to no power over something like this.

Sorry for the long rant.
