Never knew their was a GG thread here.

How is this dead thing still around? It was co-opted by profiteers & scam artists, anyone who pretended it wasn't is a lying sack of shit

GamerGate isn't around anymore, the actual "movement" if you can call it that fell apart 6 months after. You had the youtubers who used it as a way to boost their careers like shoe0nhead. KiA which as a subreddit devolved as all subreddits do, into a circlejerk that does little. The tinfoilers that add anti-GamerGate as part of the illuminati. And then the last handful of people who follow industry news and drama like mombot.

The real people keeping GamerGate in the internet conciousness....?

Many like to claim it ended sooner, some later, but the generally-accepted "death" of Gamergate was in September of 2015, around the time Sarkeesian and Quinn went before the UN to whine about it with a report so riddled with problems that it unironically included quotes from Lyndon Larouche and was bad enough that the UN publicly apologized and redacted it. If you've never read it, I encourage you to do so; the entire thing is a clusterfuck of biblical proportions. By this point there was no salvaging the reputations of either at this point, and while it was clear the Anti-GGers had won the PR side of things, it didn't matter; they lost in every other regard.

By this point, GG, even if you fucking hated it, pretty much had done everything it had set out to do: Most of the biggest pushers of the Gamers are Over incident were forced down to smaller platforms (Kuchera, Alexander), were public laughingstocks (Jed), or had lost their jobs (several), when they hadn't self-destructed their entire careers (Chipman). Gawker was being butt-fucked by @Hollywood Hulk Hogan, and Gawker was blaming GG for making it happen due to causing the mass desertion of their advertisers. The FTC had gotten involved with the native advertisement and disclosure guidelines thing, and a whole bunch of people had outbursts of Autism that kept us all satiated salt-wise for fucking years. Dozens of Lolcows with thriving threads on this very site got their wings from GG alone, which is sort of unique among lolcow events.

GG's been deader than that hooker in Vordrak's basement that he doesn't like to talk about for almost two years. The people who are constantly trotting it out now are those who staked their entire career to it, and those to whom it's become another Bogeyman to shriek about. The only thing remotely relevant about it now are how it relates to various lolcows/lolcow events and the fact that certain parties never shut the fuck up about how it's somehow still a threat to them despite being fucking over for two years (seriously, not a fucking week goes by without three verified journos whinging at length about how GG did 11/9).

Just imagine all the delegations from Africa and South and West Asia watching these affluent white women wailing about how they're literally shaking right now. They'd be even more convinced of the degeneracy of liberal values.
