The really sad thing about this is that it's not an SJW opinion;
this is legitimately a very widespread sentiment in the deaf community. Cochlear implants are viewed as a "
cultural threat" or an attempt
to cure something that isn't broken. Some deaf people argue that children should not be given cochlear implants because that will lead to the child being "taken away" from the deaf community.
Not being able to hear is a disability, just like not being able to see is a disability. Being deprived of
any of your senses is a disability. I understand that deaf people have created a community that they want to preserve, but it just baffles me that some of them are so opposed to technology that can improve hearing. Actually, I've noticed that more than a few deaf people have an odd superiority complex that just isn't seen in other disability groups.
