PSA: You're Bad at Doxing, Stop

A reoccurring trend in threads populated by fucking imbeciles is that they will tell people they have malicious intent. It's a power trip. "We're going to post your name on this site, catalog what you do, and find your doxxxXXXxxx and there's NOTHING !! you can do to stop us!, muwahaha!!"

Except there is... They can delete everything, spread misinformation, hide personal details, etc. Shit they should have been doing in the first place. Shit they would not be doing if you didn't give them a very polite heads up.

When you go out of your way to let people know you're "after them", you not only look like a sadistic tard that's trying to exact revenge for petty perceived wrongs, you are shooting yourself in the foot. The people everyone recognizes as the good doxxxxxers are literally just googling shit and using publicly available whitepage websites to compile information off known knowns. They're good because they do it in private, and do pessimistic revaluations of their own information. The moment that person you're compiling information on has it known-known that people are doing that, they will attempt to mitigate damage, and they will frequently achieve this if you warned them early enough in advance.

So this is a PSA. I don't know if I want to make it into a rule. In general, stop being a tard, stop trying to lord yourselves over lolcows (because you're a also a tard), and stop posting bad dox that makes the site look like a joke. I'm temped to give some people clerical powers only to delete posts containing embarrassing and misleading information.
 
There was a time when we didn't have to worry about this crap and we'd mock people who did it off the site.

I shouldn't have encouraged the continuing dumbness.

There's a reason I didn't tag either of them into it.
 
I don't get why you'd tell someone you were gonna find and post their dox. Dudes deleting everything isn't new, where did this sudden burst of tism come from?

We have a notice me senpai problem.

I feel like telling people you're gonna do some leet haxoring to find a cow's dox should counts as sharing trolling plans.

Same with asking for dox, really. If someone has it they'll either post it or do nothing. Asking for it is just creepy and weird even by the Farms' standards.

don't be hard on yourself. I fucked up as well: I thought about mentioning of posting it in PMs but thought (much like @Y2K Baby ) it was gonna be an unpopular opinion.

I felt guilty enough about the semi-encouragement of semi-dumbness that I suggested the Fred doxer-attempers just quit doing this shit in public where it's embarrassing and not keep doxing randos.

I'm obviously ok with doxing Fred himself but shit was going kind of wild there.

Also people taking a geolocation IP address as actually representing a real physical location was cringy beyond belief. How dumb do you have to be?

Anyway.
