:autism: It's pressure-oriented sensory input combined with an neurological inability to get tired of a thing. It's why so many of them got stuck on "mechanical keyboards" a while back, too. All that satisfying clackity clack and pressure against the hands. :autism:
I suppose I was in that other camp that was afraid of elevators, namely being stuck in one that was jammed. That's no fun if you were in a hurry.

I always take the stairs because I am not a fat autist.
Certainly healthier.

Tiny Toons is one of the most detrimental pieces of media to ever be created. The furries and now this.
I like to think Donald Duck blazed that trail many decades before.

Apparently the "Professional Elevator Industry" also frowns upon people making elevators freefall even though it looks like a lot of fun.

I imagine this is the kind of video the CIA would use as psychological warfare if they ever needed to quell the silent uprising of the elevator filming club.

this makes me have faith in the internet again. are there more people obsessed with throwing stuff into the shafts, or is that just the one couple? because three battling communities would be great.

Here's some bonus content, because this "elevator fandom" drama is perhaps the most super specific shit which is also hilarious for some reason:

Some elevator dude rambling about his life while drunk:

Some elevator community facebook drama bullshit:

Complaints about the lack of "Elevator Enthusiast Etiquette":

"War has been declared against elevator enthusiests"

Just when I thought the elevator community was running dry I stumbled upon this fantastic comment by some random directed towards an esteemed member of the elevator community and some videos by the creator (probably worthy of its own thread)

Either way, falling in or on top of an elevator is no joke!

I'm imagining one of these guys filming his experience in a random elevator while heavily breathing, as a bunch of executives stare at him and feel extraordinarily uncomfortable.

And I thought I'd seen it all.
latest

...Oddly appropriate, given the subject.
So is there a name for the most autistic of these guys, like railfans have foamers? Is there some Shaner-level megafoamer out there banned from every building within 100 miles of his home that has an elevator?
I think they're all equally autistic.
They're obsessed with elevators, for crying out loud :(

Holy shit the elevator surfing is like the Texas Longhorn cattle of lolcow autism. It's like autistic version of a daredevil.

BREAKING DEVELOPMENT:
there is also a "Lift Enthusiasts Wiki" and they sure as shit don't play by the rules!

I really love how passionate these people are about benign every day things like toilets and elevators and sliding doors. Like I never would have ever even thought there would be people who care that much but here we are.

Stairmovers in old people's homes must blow their minds. They're like escalators..and elevators simultaneously!
