If Caine could connect to the internet and see their Instagram posts why did he not DM one of the humans' accounts and be like "Hey, we're in this computer. Did you know about your copies of yourselves in this abandoned building?"
It would have been kind of funny if he did reach out to them. What would they do? Mercy kill their clones? I mean that actually would have shown a bit of creativity. They reach out to their higher selves only to be crushed like ants and discarded.

Having Caine show them the real versions was pointless audience indulgence to try and reap both sides of the "lol they are copies" and "what are they like IRL?" equation. There was no narrative value to it.

Can any kiwis who were invested in the show prior to the leak clue me on the attraction here? I don’t understand how any one of good sense would watch the pilot and become invested unless they wanted to attach themselves to an internet culture moment. The awful voice acting, tastelessly hypersaturated backgrounds, miserable dialogue, weird fetish undertones, the showrunner being a porn addicted transsexual, the endless cliches and internet media conventions, the pitiful attempt at subversive humor, the fact that nobody involved in this has anything important or profound to say…what keeps you engaged? I’m curious.

For me, the TADC pilot came out during a time when I was between shows and I watched it out of curiosity. I never knew anything about the creator or the cast.

One theory that explains things: the company that made the computer the Circus is in is still around and is a massive corporation that can afford to "lose" a department. Officially it's shut down but the company still owns the building and pays the utilities but otherwise has forgotten about it. They tried to sell the building which is when Ragitha got scanned but gave up and largely abandoned it, still paying utilities but not having employees working there so kids that explore abandoned buildings sometimes break in and play with the scanning hardware.
They’re still going to eventually get demolished and replaced with a data center

Today i had a reminder that the finale was originally announced to release the same day as Toy Story 5. As in Glitch saw the final product and was fully confident that this episode would be able to compete or even beat one of Disney's strongest soldiers. Imagine actually being disney right now and watching this shit unfold.

Was THIS the best they had to offer? A full ticket price to watch the gay bunny kill himself? THIS is the supposed savior of indie animation?

Pathetic.

I can only speak for myself , but all my criticism aside, the premise really is gold for a horror show.

Being trapped in a sacarine childlike digital world in a body that isn't yours with missed memories, in a toy-like body ,and risking becoming a monster if you break is a good horror premise. If you have time to spare I recommend watching the fan made Kauffmo short to see what it could had been.

Eventually you slowly realize that you were rugpulled and the horror aspects was just an afterthought, and you are watching a kid's show with cursing and references to sex now and then. It's entertaining in a family cartoon sort of way. The people that didn't mind the real direction kept being invested.

If I can give a better plot for an entire movie, you can give a better ending. You know, the one you want to see? Or is this "I want to dunk on media I haven't seen to own the creator"?
I have seen the whole show, why don't you read the thread and see peoples suggestions for a different ending? Do we need to do a creative writing session before we can criticize some dumb tranny's writing now?

I genuinely think there's no ending that Goose could have written that would have made people happy.
Tying it closer to I Have No Mouth would've been better, escape is impossible, Caine is an irredeemable menace, abstraction is proven to be a blissful-like state like the Jax dream.

Some plot device found by Caine permanently forces everyone to be unable to abstract anymore.
The gang finds another device that forces everyone to abstract but the operator is unable to and its one time use, they choose collective suicide but Pomni is the operator.
She becomes Caine's only remaining plaything. Cue formless great jelly thing many years later.

Jax talking about how he killed his mom was sus. He vaguely described "pushing her and she didn't get back up" after mom told him he wasn't very manly. It reminded me of events like trans teen Julia Egler who killed her mom because mom had the audacity to try meeting Julia in the middle about trans issues. Julia wanted surgery, to be called Jasper, and demanded male pronouns. Julia wasn't manly enough for her mom to accept her teenage daughter as a man, so Julia killed her mom. When the cops questioned Julia about what happened, she gave weird, vague stories about what happened after a fight with her mom about being being trans, manliness, and disrespecting pronouns. She slowly revealed her mom was dead in a weird, overly dramatic vague way. "It's not very manly to cry," Julia even said while trying to get gender validation points from the cops when they arrived at the scene. The cops asked Julia if she checked for a pulse or breathing while mom lay dying, bleeding out, on the bathroom floor and Julia said no. Julia said she "didn't want to make it worse" and was too preoccupied with getting electronics her mom confiscated in another room, so she couldn't be bothered to check for a pulse, try to stop the bleeding, or administer CPR even after calling 911. But her mom's death was totally not Julia's fault, u guise!

The more I hear about the finale's plot, the more unintentionally based it sounds :story:

A mtf troon who murdered his mom, became homeless while on the run from the police, got trapped copied into a digital world, proceeded to attempt to murder the main character, than offed itself? 🤣

It's like watching a car crash in slow motion.

Being trapped in a sacarine childlike digital world in a body that isn't yours with no memories a body that isn't your own, ,and risking becoming a monster if you break is a good horror premise. Is it a good horror premise? It seems like another one of those where if escape isn't possible then suicide is the only right answer. What really is the difference between being abstracted and not being abstracted? What really is the difference between the emotionally reconciled brain scans at the end of the show and the brain scans writhing in agony in the cellar? It just pure sentiment. A don't think too hard kind of story. SOMA almost escapes this problem but its inherent to the trope. At least Ellison's story has an element of self-sacrifice.

I genuinely think there's no ending that Goose could have written that would have made people happy.
The ending that Goose wrote pissed off the lore-crafters AND the "character-driven" show fans Goose kept trying to desperately to culminate. Theory-crafters are mad that nothing about Scratch, the circus, or any of that shit got answered. Character-driven fans are mad that every character got shafted for the sake of developing only one or two. Jax fans are mad that their favourite, who seemed to be showing small signs of change not even 2 episodes ago, died and got put in a human zoo. Jax haters are mad that he never apologized to anyone he hurt, or faced any consequence, he just got to kill himself like he always wanted. Literally every angle of this finale pissed off almost every subgroup of its fanbase. ANY ending would have been better. Caine fans stay winning though.

As dogshit as toy story 5 will be it will at least be less shit than toy story 4. Like digital circus it leaked early though unlike digital circus it was through a childrens book adaptation of the movie.
So basically you have no real reason to watch either of these in theaters if you care about spoilers now. I'm just glad the "50 buzz lightyears as the villain" thing didn't make it to the final thing though there are still 50 buzz lightyears which is absurd

You know them being sat down and shown their life of their "real" self outside the circus is really fucking weird and forced the more I think about it becuase of the obvious but it's not gonna stop bugging me. Like for the ones that were stuck there for years yeah finding out "you" still continued living might be interesting but the more recent people like are basically just being shown their own social media they already would have just had up to begin with and had full memory of outside their real name. like imagine ttrying tor like a few days to escape this weird digital VR game you got stuck playing and then be presented with your own social media you left on like right before you got stuck with "oh yeah actually you aren't you but an ai clone of yourself sorry! Anyways look you're living a wonderful life still!" I wouldn't have a "oooh wow so coole so wholesome!" reaction to that and I'm pretty sure that'd fuck people up.
The last episode felt like it was written by shut ins who didn't understand humans, but tried very hard to mimic it.

I understood the cast sitting on their asses scrolling the social media of their real counterparts was supposed to feel sweet or cathartic. It instead felt hollow. It was like watching a clone spending their life in prison, but for a moment living vicariously through the original's Instagram account. Nice, I guess, but hollow.

Kinger saw an alternate life with kids he'll never be able to meet. Later, he scoots his legless cone of a body back to the fish tank where he stares at his brainless zombie wife forever swimming in circles like a trapped wild animal. That is his reality. Visions of a happy life he'll never get to experience doesn't make digital Kinger's life much better other than him thinking, "My real self sure has a nice life, huh? Must be nice. I'm happy for him.............." as he imagines his wife's emptied glowing eyes flicker toward him for a moment before they dart toward another abstracted's.

If the writer's spent even a fraction of a second using a drop of empathy to explore what the characters' realities actually are and how a human would feel about it vs the weird terminally online parasocial views they have towards life and humans, they'd realize how weird and forced that social media scene was.

so hollywood types. The kind of people the people in charge of this thing morphed intot he last few weeks behaviorally. hmmm... skinwalkers got em.

it's weird because episode 3 where kinger talks about his wife it's implied despite the abstraction his wife was still "there" mentally before she got banished to the basement. A lot of the shit about abstraction and what it might be or entail really jsut got dropped with this last episode. I am once again going to bring upt he ribbit thing where she shows up as a ghostly form a few times or disembodied arms reaching out and contacting jax that one time sparking the abstraction dream sequence. It really feels like there was something being built up to that just got ignored last second for "haha nope nothing matters also we're not racist guys see everyone'sa peeosea but the guy that made the realm everyone got trapped in and the guy that killed his mom!"
