Even if you take the very most charitable imaginable interpretation of Eichenwald's version of events, he repeatedly paid a source for a story, a cardinal violation of journalistic ethics (if that even exists any more), then repeatedly lied about it, claiming "seizures" made him forget giving thousands of dollars to a kid who was in CP.
He was not some heroic Batman-like figure.

None of this is surprising, the amount of pedo smoke around this guy would give a contact high to Michael Jackson. While it's possible he just decided to involve himself (unethically) in the world of child porn to 'save children' without any of the safeties that actual professionals have, I don't think that's the most likely conclusion.
The most likely conclusion is that he's into it and is either using this whole thing for cover or is compensating for the disgusting urges he has. And those two aren't mutually exclusive.
