Atun-Shei neutered himself like a dog because "Muh fascism" and "Muh climate change"

Dude's so deranged that his first thought when seeing a baby is them driving in an SUV and ignoring hobos. :story: Such obvious distain in his voice when he says "another American will come into the world" if he hates Americans so much and what they do to the environment he should go all the way and just kill himself.
Seems a bit excessive to get a vasectomy just because he wanted to be absolutely sure he'll never reproduce. Becoming an admin of kiwifarms would have been a much less drastic way of achieving that.

So basically he's saying most of the people in America until very recently were white but because some of them had indigenous side pieces that means that whiteness doesnt exist? I dont understand the point this guy is trying to make beyond WHITE PEOPLE BAD. So whiteness doesnt exist but it exists enough that you can disparage the whole group for their actions?
It's an attempt to institutionalize the classic 'I'm 1/24ths Cherokee' since being white places you at the bottom of the racial totem pole in America.

The really crazy thing is that Mr. Halpin's conception of American history defeats his own ideology. If the Anglo-American pioneers were behaving as he describes, then a pretty substantial part of his argument, that they were uniquely evil, is invalid. That common argument centers around the idea that Anglo-America had, from the very beginning, a particularly rigid ethnic caste system that prevented its subordinate outgroups from ever assimilating into the dominant ingroup society. If that argument isn't true, then Anglo-America, and the United States, aren't uniquely evil.
Waging a brutal kind of warfare, where the enemy group's men were killed, its women forced into a kind of slavery or into intermarriage, and its children forcibly assimilated, is just what the Indians were doing to each other and to the settlers!

Haven't watched it yet. Presumably Part II will include Jews in the Soviet Resistance/Red Army and the liberation of the camps but now I am leaning again towards thinking he won't cover the Holocaust directly (at least as a traditional narrative). Since his entire channel has been based upon Jewish life, going through the statistic heavy destruction (e.g. "such and such number of Jews were taken here, then they were all killed there") of European Jewry seems antithetical to that.

Someone should make a thread of Atun Shei if its going to still derail this one
He's a history YouTuber, though. The thread's nominal purpose is to discuss people like him. I prefer to treat it like a containment thread for history enjoyers to yap about whatever history-adjacent thing they want to.
As an aside, I get the distinct feeling that most of the regulars here have very similar YouTube algorithms. Most of the videos people post here are either in our YouTube feed already, or they will be very shortly.

Most importantly a (relatively) civil one. Lots of politics and politics adjacent threads (and history is certainly both) get really nasty and turn into just insulting the other side. Not very fun to descend to that, especially on an actually interesting topic.

Has anyone seen a historytoober or history-adjacent tard have a bitchfit because the months of July and August on the Gregorian calendar (the only true calendar after Ab urbe condita and the Julian) are named after 'problematic' figures who were the violent rulers of a slave-owning, misogynistic, imperialist society that destroyed indigenous culture?

I know that sort of progressive iconoclasm has hit the breaks in the mainstream recently and it primarily focused on modern figures associated with colonialism, racism, etc. anyhow, but the insanity of college history and sociology departments know no bounds.

Is there even enough material to make an Atun-Shei thread? Most of his material just seems to be a more extreme version of the "White people are evil and need to hate themselves" stuff that's pretty common on the far left. On the other hand, his making himself a eunuch might eventually produce some genuine lolcow material.

I addressed this in the Karl Kasarda thread because he comes up there often as well and the short answer is no.

Relatively, yeah. Most of the fun interactions I've had here have been significantly less civil than you'd see in an academic debate. Most people have enough sense not to just spam NIGGER at everyone who insults their favorite dead guy, though.

Regardless of the amount of material, I doubt there would be enough interest for any sort of active thread. This one is pretty slow as it is, splitting up every historical YouTuber would slow it to an absolute crawl. And the few people that do post there would probably just be the usual suspects from this thread, anyway.

I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with starting a thread if you like, given that you actually effortpost™️. Even if it never makes it out of prospering grounds it would condense information in case they blow up or if someone has an interest in them.
In the words of our Dear Feeder :semperfidelis:
The greatest contributors to the Kiwi Farms are random individuals. Almost all threads are started by one person who happens to know a lolcow and wants to share the love.

I think Atun-Shei is a big enough of a lolcow at this point to warrant his own thread. This thread doubles as a history-general discussion for one and Shei's actions have extended well beyond the mildly embarrassing (as if being Channel Awesome at home wouldn't have already warranted a thread years ago) or shamelessly partisan at this point on the other. James Lindsay and Rudyard Lynch both have their own threads, turning yourself into a eunuch because more white people could potentially contribute to C02 emissions is nearly on par with drinking Kratom out of an octopus mug to collaborate with Odin on your faplist or claiming that a Southern Baptist is at the head of Catholic conspiracy to summon Zoroastrian demons.

We either trust the ancient historians or we don't
Trust but verify.

You are right. But as far as I am aware their retardation only went so far as to try to replace BC and AD with BCE/CE. But Imo calendar pretty resilent. Despite fact that there are months named after Roman pagan deities Mars/March, Juno/June, Janus/January... And those were not renamed to something more appropriate for Christian society. Because what is more Christian than having month dedicated to pagan war god?
Even minor tweaks done by Pope Gregory in 16th Century for purpose of fixing leap year math were controversial.
Both French revolutionaries and Bolsheviks tried and failed to create new revolutionary calendar. They failed and were forced to return to reactionary one. Lol

Metric time legitimately does my head in. The only successful calendar/time measurement revamp I can think of is Unix time (like Unix mills) which starts 1 Jan 1970. Only used in computing and the average person has no idea what it is.
There's also BP, Before Present, which starts 1 Jan 1950. That's used in carbon dating because you need a fixed date and carbon isotope to measure against. Some people like KYA (thousands of years ago) or MYA.
There's a whole perpetual argument on how you should refer to units of time or when something happened, or whatever. It varies by journal, field, school, and individual writers. It's dumb, but a lot of scientists love nothing less than shit flinging fights over nothing. Some guys and girls get big egos.

BP also takes in to consideration how the development and testing of nuclear weapons post-1950 basically upended isotope ratios on earth enough that radiocarbon dating can’t be used after 1950. The idea is that there’s now a very clear “before/after” man-made nuclear destruction distinction that has physically changed our world, which is grim but a valid time marker.

There are underwater salvage companies that gather pre-atomic age shipwrecks for their metals because of the isotope ratios. The atomic age really changed things.
