Anthropic forked zig and added a bunch of optimizations, but zig maintainers have a hardline anti-AI policy where they refuse anything that touched AI, so Anthropic can't merge it upstream.

Zig maintainers have said though that they will not merge this not even due to the AI policy, but because they don't like the direction of the MR, and they have also already implemented similar optimizations that offer the same performance boost.

Meanwhile, somebody at Anthropic started an experimental project where they just gave Claude bun source code and told it to create a 1-1 translation of the code to Rust. I dont think they have any intention of actually replacing bun with this. The code is translated very closely to the original zig source to the point where it even copied some idiosyncrasies that don't make sense in Rust and the code ended up not being very idiomatic.

It's not just somebody, it's Jarred Sumner the founder of Bun, so this is a big programming language war event. Bun and Tigerbeetle are two big commercial projects that are using Zig, they are pushing the Zig hype.

Ziggers are basically getting cucked to Claude and Rust, terrible stuff, what's going to happen next, Tigerbeetle using Claude to port to Go?

I mean zig bun rust and claude aren't the best examples, but I do notice that many people in "tech" spaces online use what I'd call buzzwords, or I guess they're tech names, and most of these are basically retards

They'll talk about technologies like they're experts in them, but when pressed they know jack shit

Just rewrite history to pretend like you've made some fantastic discovery that no one else knows about or has participated in before you... just like Richard Stallman when he hijacked the free software movement, or Eric Raymond when he wrote The Cathedral and the Bazaar. Its so over.. I've chosen zig as the language for the projects im working on at my job and now we are getting total zigger death

The tech industry (basically a homosexual Eyes Wide Shut sex cult/Ponzi scheme run out of Silicon Valley) has decided that only a handful of awful naming conventions are now allowed:
  • Names that would normally end in "-er", but delete the "e", with Grindr being the most notorious
  • Names that are baby talk, e.g., Google, Hadoop
  • Names that are offensively twee and quirky mutations of normal English words, e.g., Hpricot
  • Names that are four letters long and can be made into a tidy logo if you put it all in lowercase Helvetica, e.g., Ring, Tivo, Hulu, Roku (smart TV bullshit or Perl 6, your choice)

The more rules your name satisfies, the more likely it is that Paul Graham or Marc Andreesen will invite you to an initiation ritual where you get some seed capital and a prolapsed rectum.

I wrote a couple high-profile projects in Java (using a proper language on android was a PITA), that still hang on even if Java is relegated to Enterprise and low-cost Indian developers. I'm sure Zig will survive, althoughbeit it might get less mindshare and fewer people who know it (though I assume picking up Zig is easier for anyone you recruit for $DAYJOB than e. g. prolog, which I had to learn for a job).
