White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned Friday morning, according to three White House officials.

Spicer's resignation came after New York financier and former Trump campaign fundraiser Anthony Scaramucci accepted the position as White House communications director.
A White House official and top GOP adviser said President Donald Trump asked Spicer to stay on, but he resigned.

The resignation caps off one of the most tumultuous tenures for a White House press secretary, one that saw Spicer repeatedly undermined in his role as the White House's public-facing spokesman by the President's own public statements and tweets.
Spicer handled the responsibilities of both press secretary and communications director during much of his tenure, overseeing the White House's response to a near non-stop deluge of controversy, particularly concerning the widening federal investigation into potential ties between Trump campaign associates and Russian officials.
Scaramucci's hiring began to come together Thursday night, but as news of the hire began to leak, Spicer, White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon found themselves largely in the dark -- unaware of the President's already firm intention to tap Scaramucci for the top communications post, according to a source familiar with Spicer's thinking.
Priebus told reporters after the news broke, "I support Anthony 100%. We go back a long long way and are very good friends -- all good here."
Spicer was repeatedly thrust into a combative role, ordered by the President to take to the briefing room on his first full day in office to lambast the media for coverage of the size of the crowd that attended Trump's inauguration.
The moment quickly defined Spicer's public-facing relationship with the press and his daily White House briefing quickly became must-watch TV.

Spicer did not have the correct temperament for that particular post. If you truly think that someone is on a mission to make you look bad by any means, then the last thing you need to do is let them visibly (and publicly) get under your skin. I watched the majority of Spicer's press briefings and he got visibly agitated during every single one.

He was visibly stupid on every single one. Also, he was called a "press secretary" but he obviously had no clue what was going on, because he'd say one thing, and then Trump would tweet the exact opposite literally minutes later.

Trump will have a bit of trouble finding someone as stupid as Spicer to replace him.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the point of a Press Secretary is if they don't even know what's going on. I expected Spicer to depart sooner rather than later. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and say that turnover for that post during this administration will be high.

Dammit I liked him.

I'm convinced the position of press secretary makes people dumber, I'd honestly rather work at the DMV.

As neutral as I am about Spicer (what the fuck do I say about a press secretary that isn't self incriminating?), I kinda feel sorry for him jumping headfirst into PS. I'd rather work at the DMV.

Isn't Spicer an utter moron? Getting rid of him with no hassle or controversy sounds like a huge win for Trump.

I'll miss his hilariously bad press briefings.

But honestly, he was terrible. He'd get mad at the journalists, but still let them walk all over him.

Either you ignore their stupidity and deliver the info without letting them get to you or you let them know you have complete contempt for them, refuse to indulge their bullshit, give them the info, then all-but tell them to piss off.

Gotta go fully one way or the other or they'll tear you apart.

He didn't even have the info to give, though, so he had no choice about what to do. He was going to look like a moron no matter what he did or said, because Trump was just going to contradict him on Twitter often within minutes of whatever shit he made up Baghdad Bob style.
