Trump's just not getting the credit for sealing the border and having virtually zero immigration right now in any form. There's too many that have purity tests that think if ICE doesn't kick em all out immediately you might as well go for a Newsom or Porter that openly advocates replacement theory and says they need socialized medicine more than US citizens.
People (mostly Groyper types) like to constantly bring up Obama's deportation record to bitch at Trump, but they really don't understand how deportations worked under Obama or how things have changed with Trump.
Obama's deportation record includes a lot of "Returns", albeit far fewer than Clinton or Bush, but when people talk about deporting illegals they really mean "Removals" and especially "Expedited" removals.
(Returns are basically someone withdrawing an application for admission or voluntarily departing (usually turned away at the border), or foreign crew members who stay aboard their ships; Removals mean US Immigration agents forcibly deport the person, usually after an immigration judge ruling or in the case of Expedited Removals, they might just skip the court proceedings to save time. Returns can usually come back whenever they want, while Removals trigger 5-20 year bans of entry, or longer.)
In 2011 Obama started shifting focus to border crossers, with interior removals dropping greatly after 2011. About 70% of his Removals happened within 100 miles of the border. So mostly new Illegals, rather than people who had been here for any real length of time.
And of the 2.5 million or so Removals under Obama, around 450,000 later returned to the US. That's about 18-20%. (Returns had a higher return rate, at about 30%.) [To be fair to Obama, this was a lower rate than under Clinton or Bush]
So Trump shutting down the border has basically forced a total shift in focus, with far more interior Removals now and closing off the border prevents this recidivism issue at the same time. As well as obviously reducing people entering in the first place. For the first time in forever, we're likely seeing an actual drop in the number of illegals in the US.
Another thing Trump doesn't get enough credit for:
Obama's Expedited Removals policy used to be limited to people picked up within 100 miles of the border. But on Trump's first day back in office last year he had DHS expand Expedited Removal authority to anywhere in the US. So they can grab illegals anywhere and remove them far quicker with less judicial headaches slowing the process down.
Also, while his total deportations were lower, Trump's first term Removals was generally in line with Obama's, at least until the Pandemic, which caused a lot of headaches with asylum claims and Title 42 expulsions (basically just Returns at the border). Before the Pandemic, he'd been shifting the focus more toward the interior already.
Trump's second term is far more focused on interior Removals, and though data is not readily available yet, he'll likely end up with more Removals than Obama (and possibly with more Returns as well as voluntary deportation is much higher now than with Biden).
And finally, he doesn't get enough credit for a major increase in detention facilities/beds. Before Trump, ICE often had to release people from detention due to a lack of room, and even if ICE didn't release them, Immigration judges would grant them release on bond.
ICE now releases essentially no one before a final deportation decision, and Trump also made it much harder for the judges to release people on bond. Last July, ICE changed their rules such that anyone who entered the country without inspection at a port of entry was ineligible for bond, regardless of how long they had lived in the United States. The Board of Immigration Appeals a few months later agreed, binding immigration judges. There's been a ton of habeas corpus petitions and despite hundreds of judicial opinions finding the policy illegal, ICE and the immigration courts continue to apply the new rule.
The easiest example you can point to is Seattle, they implemented a minimum wage law in for food delivery drivers. The increased cost of food impacted by this actually made worker get less work, and wages are estimated to have decreased by 28% for drivers because people were ordering less food.

I think it also ties in a lot with the Middle East's pivot to be the Big Money behind things like Entertainment and Tourism as a pivot away from being the global leader in energy production.
