What law would they be breaking? The fact that none of them have an immediate plan and don't quite know what to do now when everyone knew this decision was coming should tell you differently. The SC just sent it back to the panel that drew the bad map with no further instruction. That's how they roll.

the district was ruled unconstitutional today. it's against the law.

Hypothetically, if they prepared in the case the district ruling didn't go their way, could the have the original districting as a fallback and have switched over without having to postpone the election?

I'm assuming the immanent election would still be using the districting that was just struck down as violating the VRA. And as we know, violating the VRA is tantamount to being literally Hitler.

Well they're going to have to do something. The whole point of the lawsuit was that the state reps were redrawing the district to eliminate a GoP seat and the GoP incumbent was the one who sued to stop it.

They can't just shrug and be like, oh well we will do something next time. They will have to re-draw the map before the election takes place or postpone the election until a new map is created. I know the state DNC will drag their feet like no tomorrow but with this order they cannot just keep going forward as is.
