It's not a new feature, though I mostly see Vtubers using it to restrict clipping so Youtube doesn't fuck them over for "repetitive content" (has happened a few times in the past).

A bunch of vtubers also disable it because it "helps" in the event they fuck up and say something they shouldn't, let a real voice slip, were doing a hand-cam and their face showed up in a reflection, and so on. Of course it doesn't stop anyone simply recording the stream from posting clips later. It's been a feature on youtube for years.
