So apparently SPTarkov isn't going to do a 1.0 update but will instead fork off into a new expanded modding capability 4.1.

  1. Hi everyone,We wanted to give everyone a brief update on what's been going on behind the scenes and the future of SPT.Since the launch of Escape From Tarkov's 1.0 update, we've mentioned that any future updates built on top of EFT's versions post-launch were on hold while we explored our options and saw what we had in terms of tooling and what modding capabilities still exist. It's been a little over 5 months since Escape From Tarkov left early access, and we've given a lot of thought on how to approach a theoretical 'SPT 5.0' update. To put it directly, the team has come to the decision that we will not be pursuing a version of SPT for Escape From Tarkov's 1.0 update and beyond. The reasons are many, but a major one is that nobody on the team has enough familiarity with working on such a low level of code, nor does anyone have the desire to learn. A big hurdle is, of course, aside from the sheer amount of modules that need to be completely rewritten, is that BSG at any point can simply change encryptions on their end on a whim and render everything useless. Even after reaching feature parity with SPT 4.0, client modding would be incredibly difficult for 1.0 (so difficult, that very few people could even do so at all) that the scope of mods we would have would be limited to (mostly) strictly server mods. Such a massive undertaking for learning, writing, and potentially having it all be for nothing is far too great a risk for everyone here to take, especially when the payoff leaves the experience so much less capable than a previous version.

  2. As for SPT in its current form, work is still ongoing for SPT 4.1. It's slow, but the amount of work going into it behind the scenes is tremendous. The update, when released, will essentially be an open playground for client modders to explore and poke at. Things will be far more straightforward and easy to find (not an endless bunch of 'GClassxxxx' names) and of course plenty of improvements to the base SPT experience. We can't wait to see what the talented modding community can come up with! Finally, while the SPT team is not planning on continuing development beyond the last supported Escape From Tarkov version, we want to say that there are likely going to be other teams and groups that do want to take up the challenge and either update SPT for Escape From Tarkov 1.0+ or create their own solo-EFT project. Where there's a will, there's always a way. While it's a potentially exciting prospect, as always we want to urge users to be cautious about what programs they download and run on their computers. Be safe and vigilant! While SPT has always gone above and beyond to ensure that there will not be any potential risk to your live Escape From Tarkov account, there may be no guarantees when poking around with other methods of creating a solo-EFT experience. We will have another announcement for SPT 4.1 in the future, closer to when it is ready to be released. We don't have a timeline as to when to expect it, but it's actively being worked on.Thank you all once again for your support over the years.-The SPT Team

I literally just want a version of the game that you can mod quests and items so I can completely re-do the game's story into something actually engaging, with verisimilitude.

I don't care if it's two years out of date because quite frankly every single thing they added in 1.0 was useless dogshit that they only added because Nikita is a narcissistic retard, they're contrary to any sort of good game experience

Well, good news then. Looks like people are trying to make mods where you have circumstances like escorting civilians to evac zones etc in sptarkov.

With how they are discussing 4.1. It might have the backend to actually build full quest chains.

Adding new features is just icing on the cake, icing that reads "nikkita is bad at game design." i really think the framework for a legitimately engaging and fun singleplayer game is already there, the game is just designed to be a manipulative and abusive experience to hook a certain subset of players into paying more for cheats. Completely cutting out half of the game would just make it better without damaging the tone - basically all of the streets of tarkov quests and afterwards just don't even attempt to create atmosphere, they're just blatant MMO fetch quests that would be really easy to completely rewrite.

years ago before i got into tarkov or stalker 2 was a thing i was spitballing a STALKER mod that was basically just A Guy Trying To Get By In The Bar. Stalker without the wish granter, basically just world building fetch quests in the urban parts of the zone. like a mystery adventure where you are not strelok and shadow strelok instead of what the original game did where you shadow yourself. Not even to actually build it, but just to think about what it would be like if it existed, and it's more or less the exact thing that Tarkov is missing
