IIRC you need to use a special version of the emulator made for just the game.
Still no joy. Maybe it would work in windows, but no luck with linux and various versions of proton.
I do see that it is backwards compatable and I have an old XBONE I can try with a used copy.

Sorry to hear that.

This version of emulator worked on my machine, but as speculate, it may be because I'm using W10.

If all else fails you could try joining the trannycord via this link and asking the guy that cobbeled together this version of the emulator for help?

The story outside of the pilots is so fucking cheesy, but I honestly think it works.
If they'd cut out the tankers and given more space for developing Melissa and Victor's stories, they could've had something that while never as impactful as 4's narrator, at least made for a more compelling side-story.

6's story feels like them trying to do 4 all over again but DOGSHIT, and way too much "Go dance with the angels." At least it had Pasternak though, I'll give it some credit for that.

Now that I have a gaming PC, I'm getting a flight stick just for AC8.
I’d strongly advise using a gamepad for Ace Combat. Reason being is you will be using full control surface deflection the overwhelming majority of the time in AC and a traditional flight stick will require massive “throw” to get the same deflection inputs as a gamepad.

I suppose maybe one could set the curves so it doesn’t need full deflection but I’ve tried playing AC with a VKB Gladiator setup and I had a hard time. In my case however it might be due to muscle memory from thousands of hours of DCS and Il-2.

Ace Combat plots are generally cheesy. Blatant anti war message? Check. Lots of dialogue about myths and legends? Check. A tragic death? Check.

The anti war themes also don't land smoothly considering you play as a faceless soldier who devastates army divisions and cities alike no matter how questionable the orders are. Then you are rewarded for your the devastation you caused by becoming a living legend and getting hitched with the finest quality Osean broad your squadron has to offer to honk out the next generation of mute sociopaths.

Maybe after your grandchildren win the 68th War To Preserve PeaceTM, we will finally have no more wars.

I like/love all the stories in all the AC games (that I've played) but this is why AC 4's story is the best to me. It didn't dwell on the anti-war message, if anything it was in support of war as a means of liberation. Instead, it told a more nuanced story with Yellow 13 and the generally fucked situation everyone was forced into by the natural disaster of the Ulysses asteroid.

That, coupled with the narrator retelling his childhood experience during that time to Mobius through his letter just hit in a way they haven't quite managed to do again.

I played it this way a few months ago and it was flawless. If you have a hotas for the Xbox one it will work with the game as well, I used a thrustmaster t.flight one to play it. The only control that doesn't seem to carry over is the one for high g turns, which kinda sucks and makes the game a little harder, but it was still fun.

Wonder how long it will take before we start getting close to AC3 timeline. Would be really cool if post-ELECTROSPHERE the series is soft rebooted into focusing on the final frontier. We already got a taste of spACE combat with that one mission in 3. Too bad it's gonna take a long ass time before we reach that point in the AC timeline.

I guess that depends on what you mean by "close." General Resources LTD already featured in the AC7 DLC. I'm pretty sure the YR series aircraft from ACX are supposed to be proto-Neucom planes. AC8 is just 11 years out from Nemo. I don't think we'll ever get a game at or after AC3 though, it seems to be one of those things they don't really want to touch.

They already teased it a lot in 7. Mimic Squadron were sent in by GR to stop Trigger + Schroeder's assistant was Yoko.

You can get one if you want, other games use them, but that's a mistake for Ace Combat. It's not even a casual flight sim, it's a full on arcade shooter that was designed to be played with controllers. You can look up online third person footage of people doing stupid physics-breaking shit in the game that feels right in game but in a joystick is nonsense.
It supports joysticks but it isn't for them, they actively make it worse.

Anybody else find the name Strangereal fucking awesome? Sounds like a German phrase now that I think about it.

Aren't there multiple games where blowing up refugee tents is an option that you get points for? I remember so many jokes during 9's A-10 mission blowing up the oil fields, like "Yeeaaaaaaaah!! We're devastating a nation's economy and likely fucking up global supply chains making innocent civilians suffer and fucking things up for everyone in multiple surrounding nations! Yeeaaaaaaah! We're the heroes!"

Just like real life! :)
