Even if you would work in the EU you would indirectly pay them tax money for Ukraine and if you are enough of a Russian patriot to commit tax fraud because of that you would still live in their countries as a parasite that takes advantage of them without giving anything back while still complaining.

EU (as in the union) is run by an undemocratic gang of oligarchs, but they're not retarded judging by how long they've been able to cling to power despite universal dislike in the countries they force their laws on.

I think the EU still has some benefits for its countries in regards to trading and other things, which you can see from the economic decline of the UK after the Brexit when they started to lack those benefits and that a pro EU party recently won in Hungary.

And the thing is that the EU is run by european politicians which means that they will mostly just complain if they have internal beef with you without doing much. See Orban staying in power for that long. So if you don't always listen to them without completly going off the rails you are mostly fine.

Also atleast the 720 members of the European Parliament are directly elected by the citizens of the member countries from a list of their respective local parties, so while I wouldn't call it a complete oligarchy it surely is bureaucratic.
