unironically, the best choice for CA governor is and has been for about 12 years John Chiang


He's a very boring very competent administrator with extreme fiscal chops and zero skeletons in his closet. He has decades of political experience and basically no enemies, certainly no personal ones. (in contrast, many powerful people hate Newsom's guts on a level that people outside CA politics I think don't fully comprehend; the level of aggro in existence at him is actually a direct risk to the country were he to be elected president)

But the CA Democratic Party wants to take over the USA and rule the world along with the CCP. The path to doing that involves taking a figurehead from the governorship of CA to the presidency (this was supposed to happen after Hilary's two terms), and John Chiang can't be elected to the presidency because he was born in Taiwan. So CA got Newsom instead.
