after dunking on a more unsympathetic character billy's greaseball behavior is reframed as an anti-hero who doesn't give a fuck. he also trashes the sanctity of speedrunning which is pleasing to anyone who knows how neurotic and diseased that community is.

I fully expect that unless billy retires as a public spectacle he will do something extremely shitty to incinerate the current stock of goodwill and break the narrative. but for now he's an excellent character for the story and being team billy is what's most funny.

Outside of a few niche communities nobody is going to be keeping tabs on him or really care what he has to say. Once the drama with Karl is done, he will naturally fade from the wider discourse again, but this time on a high note. If he does something bad most people will not hear about it unless it is some wild felonies that get on the news or some shit like that.

Also the difference is Billy's whole persona is a character. And these people aren't playing a character. They're just ass blasted about video game high scores, which is the single gayest thing to be ass blasted about.

Yes, he's gotten two million points on a live stream. Multiple times. He also doesn't have the high school. That would be another guy. By the way, the guy who beat Billy's high score used an emulator. Everyone crucify him.
