I mean I think it's goofy when I see bjd collectors whose collections consist of nothing but angsty gay elf/j-rocker/demon/fallen angel/vampire/whatever skirtbois but ultimately what someone chooses to drops hundreds of dollars on is their choice and most people aren't interested in making political statements with what dolls they buy.

With her rambling about people making light skinned dolls with "ethnic" face molds, I wonder if she'd get mad about some mixed race kid making a doll with those features because that's what they look like? Considering she's crazy enough to go into a children's toy store and flip off a toy she's probably crazy enough to get mad at some mixed kid for making a doll that looks like them (especially since SJWs have been known to be dicks to mixed people).

I'm just guestposting since I usually just lurk but this is the first time I've ever gotten truly excited to see a lolcow thread. I'm an American Girl collector, and usually keep up on blogs to see which items are retiring so I can nab them on eBay before they disappear and skyrocket in price, which is how I found Nethilia's blog. If you have time to read the extremely long story of how she got kicked off of every single American Girl forum for being racist on her americangirloutsider blog, its hilarious and has some really lulzworthy screenshots. I might make an account and just go in there and bring some choice ones about her dolls being pagan over here myself, but I've never posted before so I'm not sure how to archive things! By far the best post on her blog is the one where she rants forever about how people shouldn't celebrate Christmas with their dolls because she is pagan. She's been a plague on everyone in the American Girl community trying to make it into a "fandom", when it is really either young girls, teens, or older women collecting these dolls and taking cute pictures to show to others in the community.

I can't make heads or tails of this thing. Was she really twisting the arm of this other person? I can't imagine fronting the money for internet "friends" to buy expensive dolls, while calling it all "gifts" instead of loans. They both sound like complete nutcases.

The word " fandom" itself used to be a red flag. It was only used by the sort of women who wrote fanfics and ended up paying for journalfen. I.e. long-winded bitches who can't stfu.

Edit: This woman is everything that could possibly be wrong with Internet culture circa 10+ years ago. I don't know shit about American Girls, but I recognize this pure vintage cancer. I bet she stank up Buffy and/or X-files groups, too.

She's always, always online. She doesn't have a job right now, and from my limited interaction with her it looks like she's never had any "real" job. I'm pretty sure she's on some kind of benefits. She had nebulous health problems that crop up when it's convenient for her (like when it's time to get a job). The way she talks about her family I'm pretty sure they grew up working class, just slightly above being working poor. Her husband works, they're not flush but they don't have much disposable income. Any money she manages to scrounge up or fall into goes directly to the doll collection.

They even offer accessories like hearing aids and wheelchairs for fuckssake. She'd absolutely lose her shit at people who collect dolls like Little Miss Revlon where the color options are blonde and brunette. Heaven forbid that doll collectors collect what appeals to them.

Inorite? And these are meant for kids, too. Kids can be surprisingly open-minded about race when it comes to choosing cool dolls. Heck, I was a wee li'l shitlord when Addy was introduced, and I just remember thinking her gold earrings and pink dress were the coolest. Thank God we didn't have much money, or I'd have begged for an army of the things.

Seriously, though, what the heck is this lady on about? How is it racist if people want to get custom dolls using the closed-mouth mold? That mold was created with the mouth closed to respect the traditions of the people the character represented, but keeping your mouth closed isn't a trait unique to that group.
