One post was enough to get them arguing that /r/protectandserve should be shoah'd from the board.
Let's be real here, most of them already hate that that's even allowed to exist on reddit to begin with, that was more of an excuse than anything. Especially ironic since heavy handed Bloomberg era policing is necessary to make modern urban life palatable to people beyond delusional urbanists.

Bloomberg had a LOT of issues but I can't deny that Bloomberg-era NYC was in the high-water mark of the city before de Blasio ran it back into the ground.

The problem with big cities is that police has to scale with population, two police officers and the county sheriff is fine for a small, sleepy town where the biggest thing for a cop that day is someone doing 50 in a 35, you need basically an army in a large city.

edit for eurofriends: "50 in a 35" is a speed limit, a lot of these towns drop the speed limit from 75 to 35 mph in two increments and have cops on the lookout for both. 75 mph=120 kmh, 50 mph=80 kmh, 35 mph=56 kmh.

The businesses will only have a temporary pain before they realize they can save BIGLY by not having buildings, it's the realtors screaming bloody murder about WFH because they'll be stuck with useless office towers forever.

It's really just commercial real estate and managerialists keeping us from the sensible option of having everyone with an Email Job work remotely.
Unfortunately when corporations realize certain jobs can be done remotely is also when they realize they can outsource various functions to India or the Phillipines.

This (presumably troll) post was going viral on Reddit yesterday. It got deleted for obvious reasons, but I thought I'd share it here 'cause it's funny (found via Google cache):

While the Canadian government is somewhat bloodthirsty in the way it heavily advocates for MAID/euthanizes its citizens - it's certainly not orchestrating a genocide of cyclists (or Jews, for that matter).

Someone in the comment section even did statistics:

Cyclists have one of the biggest persecution complexes around and between pro-Palestine sentiment I wouldn't be too surprised if that's actually real.

Cyclists should be made 2D when cars approach:

Bicycles are treated as vehicles, but they can be a nuisance when they're on the road, right? That's why our company developed this device. When a car approaches, the device activates. Using a special compression technology, it shrinks the bicycle along with the rider horizontally. This ensures that enough space is maintained when passing vehicles. Riding is supported by a magnetic field or something, so being thin doesn't interfere with your ability to ride. Now you can ride your bicycle without hesitation. We are confident that we can provide the perfect bicycle width reduction system.

Cyclist genocide? Never happened. But maybe it should have. And maybe it will happen again.

@Xarpho's Return
Part of the issue to me with NYC is how absolutely massive it is administratively, a city that size in almost every other city in the US is split into the main city and a bunch of smaller incorporated cities and unincorporated communities in the same metro region, so even though NYPD is numerically huge they're also spread thin across a huge area administratively. I have no idea how you'd even start to fix that though.

If cyclists feel it’s reasonable to strap a giant dildo to their bikes to separate their personal space on a road, car drivers should be equally reasonable and start installing these rotating blades to the wheels you used to see in the oldschool action movies.
Truckers got you covered pal

They're science's chosen vehicle
They were promised bike lanes 3,000 years ago
The hood-noses don't want you to hear this but this is the truth: "Peak hour" is just a myth, made up by car brains to justify one more lane bro. It just doesn't add up. Six thousand cars, traveling on the same highway, in just one hour? With no induced demand? Well where's the exhaust fumes? The skidmarks? The dead pedestrians? I don't hear any honking horns by frustrated drivers right now!
Face it, "peak hour" doesn't happen. It's just a lie made up by Drive-o-zists to make even more lanes for cars!

Reminds me of all the /tv/ posts where "Planes confirms that WWII did happen in the Cars universe, therefore there was a Cars Rape of Nanking and Cars Holocaust" and the jokes expressing doubt that six million cars being crushed.

Easy, split off the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn as separate cities, rename the City of New York as the City of Manhattan. "New York City" was always colloquial.

That was my first thought but there's also zero chance the City of New York would allow it to happen.
New York is not going to voluntarily split itself up, it would be up to the State and various courts. Of course, there's going to be tons of downsides, like:
- The MTA still stands in its entirety.
- Manhattan is still fucked.
- There would be fuckery going on to stick the new cities with the financial obligations/pensions of the city pre-break up.

The DMV area needs another outer beltway, but Maryland will never allow that because the only reason they have an economy is because it’s too difficult for Maryland residents to commute to Virginia.

Though now that Virginia is a blue state, that may be moot.
Virginia being a blue state is arguably not relevant here, because NoVA is turning into the Silicon Valley of the East coast, with a strong job market and high housing prices to match. When I lived there a few years back, some of my coworkers were living by choice in (shitty parts of) DC and MD because it was significantly cheaper. I'd argue the bigger reason why more people don't do that isn't another beltway, it's the lack of bridges over the Potomac. Which to your point, Maryland doesn't want because of the economics and also they technically own the river and would be paying for them. And VA also doesn't want more bridges for easier access, because as progressive as the state gov't pretends to be, the rich people in NoVA want the DC/MD ghetto blacks to stay on the other side.
