I am going to guess based on these coincidences:
are you familiar with Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, Cool Cool Toon, Cubivore, Eternal Poison, Garfield Caught in the Act and the Lost Levels, Gimmick, Herdy Gerdy, Linda Cubed Again, Megami Tensei Old Testament, moon, Okage, SeGaGaGa, Shadow Hearts Gaiden, and Vagrant Story?
Familiar with but have not played AC3. Familiar in the sense that I know what it is based on what I know the games to be about. Never heard of any of the rest of it except for Cubivore which I have played. And Vagrant Story I have played briefly.
...literally 'exceptional' or Kiwi Farms 'exceptional'?

Exceptional compared to other PS2 Survival Horror. In a narrative sense. Gameplay-wise it's exactly what you think it is before you play it. Really, what it is, if you're into old school Survival Horror, you should play it. If you aren't specifically into that, you should skip it. It's depressing and slow.
But if you like Kuon, Siren, Haunting Grounds, Fatal Frame, Clock Tower 3, old Silent Hill and Resident Evil, or any of the 9000 indie games that are mimicking that style you should play it. If you don't have that specific autistic interest, its boring and depressing.

So Kiwi Farms exceptional.

I can’t wait for a few days/weeks from now when Redditors realize there are easy ways to get roms besides Myrient.

Or maybe I don’t want that… something something gatekeeping.

I'm totally hip and cool and don't need to be gatekept because I'm totally in on the thing.

But I'd be awesome if you'd please elaborate.

You’re already awesome :tomgirl:
The Emulation General Wiki is all you need, and here’s the “rom sites” section specifically.

I will say though, Myrient was very convenient for having pre-patched translations and rom hacks. Patching a lot at once can be a chore.

Vimm’s Lair is good for pre-patched ROMs and ISOs too.

CDRomance was good, but they stopped hosting files, the massive faggots.

WIP recompilation for Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise 2008 for the 360:
That's amazing. The same technology is powering a PC recompilation of Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.
Video was recorded on a laptop. Maybe it will run at full speed on a real computer.

Rule of Rose is Kiwi Farms "exceptional." 1:58:30 shows this game's incredibly bad combat.
The story is interesting but it's told in a way that's hard to follow which detracts from it IMO. Probably best watch on Youtube rather than actually played.

Does anyone, upon discovering a 'new' game, go find if there are any patches of that game?
After spending years seeing how many people translated, fixed, and otherwise improved on so many old games, I avoid playing vanilla whenever I can.

Sometimes. Say for uncensored patches, undubs, or reverting any localization changes. If you're talking about "QoL" patches I avoid them at first, because sometimes these hacks like to change the game in away that detracts from the original experience(Castlevaniajump physics).

Actually, I have a recent story about that. In preparation of eventually playing Secret of Mana for the first time, I heard about two major patches: one that fixes the camera scrolling, and one text overhaul. I couldn’t find a clear answer for whether I could use the two patches together, but I instead found a patching utility called Secret of Mana Turbo which allows you to apply any combination of curated patches from a list of… probably around 200-300. Everything you can think of, from individual bug fixes to control reworks to balance changes to multiple different relocalizations. And of course, about half the patches are preselected by default, with quite a few being things I wouldn’t want to change at a glance, and there’s no “unselect all” button. So I said fuck it and just did the standalone camera patch.

But yeah, I’ll generally use a patch for a first playthrough if there’s a popular hack that fixes some small-but-major issue like the aforementioned camera.

You're a gentlemen and a scholar. Thank you.
I've been using CDromance through Retrogametalk. It doesn't have everything but it's fine for most games.
And thank you.

And thank you. I knew Vimm's but I appreciate it.

I agree. I like it because I'm a slut for old school Survival Horror. But yeah. The combat is ass. The puzzles are, okay I guess. The story is the draw but it's fucking depressing. So like I said, if you don't have the autistic drive to play that specific shit, it can be skipped.
What abou the Suda51 games? I am starting with a translated playthrough of Twilight Syndrome.
I have not played that. Are you recommending it?

What time is Myrient going down? It says today, but i'm guessing it will be at 23:59-00:00 or so American time?
I'm not sure when it actually is going offline, but the gays on Reddit said that it's all been archived on something called Minerva Archive. When I go to it, it says the website is in progress. So we'll see I guess.
