Allow me, because I unfortunately have had to explain this before. There's actually a term for this, mukokuseki or 無国籍. It basically means that they do this thing where anime characters don't have distinct cultural features because it's easier to tell people apart that way. So by default, since pale skin is seen as prettier everywhere, they usually look like White people (because frankly White people have the most casual diversity in terms of hair and eye colors) but Japan swears up and down they see them as mostly Japanese.
