I'm seeing an awful lot of mad posting but not a lot of proof to show this is somehow "bigger" than the oil embargos and revolution of the 70s

The first world has diversified it's energy to not be as dependent on oil since the 70s, and where we do consume it we are more efficient. I'm not saying this won't have an affect but "OMG THE ECONOMY IS OVER BIGGEST CRISIS EVER" is just being an alarmist retard.

It will but really not in a way you'd think.　It will most definitely completely fuck the middle east, but markets will probably stabilize in a year or two. Countries are already vying for energy independence, other people are already willing to distribute their crude, the US still manufactures alot of oil, and has Venezuela.

Id be more worried about civil war fellow western man

Yes. You can go back to the first three or four days of the war and see that Iranian officials at the time openly said that was their strategy in order to force the other Gulf States to strongarm America and Israel to stop.

They've been trying to rewrite it for the last week because it's obviously just pissing everybody off 🙄

So then its not unreasonable to suspect that their entire capacity for command and control is totally ruptured? Like deeply scattered and confused beyond what is even commonly described by our pro war media right now? It's like the regime may not be able to surrender because nobody is in charge of anything really. Im unsure if im going too far in suspecting this is the case. You're being hyperbolic and cursory searches show you're basically incorrect. Pricewise this is pretty far from the worst energy crisis ever. For the US especially, this crisis may pass with little real effects people are not obviously able to bear. Gas prices have been higher than this and WTI is trading at a high but survivable level. This crisis also has a fairly clear off-ramp compared to the instability in 2011 - 2014. Optimistically, the Islamic Republic may well not survive this intervention. Pessimistically the pressure on Iran will go away in about a month based on statements from the administration. Chaos in Iran will hamper any ability to lash out at the Gulf States, and continuous pressure on the Gulf States will meet with international opprobrium directed at Iran, not the US--after all, it's possible to retaliate effectively against the Islamic Republic and it's not possible to retaliate effectively against America. That being said, this is probably a rather acute crisis. 2011 - 2013 had very high oil prices for a sustained period, inflation adjusted much higher than now.
