ok better source, as of 2024 it was 18.49% they have been rapidly working to get that number down but you can see how outsized a role coal plays

China doesn't just use the oil for energy; they also use it for a lot of their manufacturing.
That said, if they intervene in the Iran situation, it's more likely that the reason is because Iranians are fucking up their shipping lane through the Strait of Hormuz.

I don't think they'll actually get involved. If they do, it means that this bullshit has actually caused some real issues internally.

If China intervenes in the Iran situation they will 100% play their own game. You think America wants a Chinese flotilla in the flight path of their planes? I'll laugh if China agrees to help and we end up with Chinese military bases in Iran that the Iranian regime 'begrudgingly' accepts.

Every fucking country in the world is dependent on oil. Our cars and trucks don't run on coal bud. Electric vehicles are not there yet for the big logistics chains. You know it kinda sucks when the shelves on the grocery stores are empty because transport truck isn't coming.

The Chinese already have a naval base in Djibouti. China has a huge merchant navy and has made significant investments in its navy. The worry of the US wouldn't be about the Chinese shooting down planes. More about all the sensors these ships carry. China would love to observe American planes in action with that many radars.

and sustain military power at greater distances.” DOD has
reported that the PLA support base in Djibouti includes
barracks, an underground facility, a tarmac, and hangars for
unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and helicopters, but no
runway. DOD assesses that the base’s pier can likely
accommodate aircraft carriers, other large combatants, and
submarines. A PLAN Marine Corps (PLANMC) battalion
of roughly 400 marines is based in Djibouti to support
possible contingency operations, according to DOD. The
PLANMC supports the PRC’s military diplomacy.
The PLA base sits a few miles from the U.S. base, Camp
Lemonnier, which is adjacent to the international airport.
DOD has reported that China has sought to restrict airspace
over its base. U.S. officials reported several cases in 2018
of lasers pointed from the base at U.S. military aircraft that
caused eye injuries to pilots; China denied the allegations.

Their cards mostly suck. Or rather, the cards are okay but they don't know how to play.

We should probably take their airforce seriously. They have enough planes to learn lessons the hard way, while still having some modern airframes to dick around with and be dangerous. Home field advantage and what not.

You don't get that with a navy. One bad move in open ocean and its all at the bottom of the sea. China ain't ready to power project and they are very aware of it.

More like it's a $600 PSA AR-15, with some Temu optics and lasers and all the other equipment is from AliExpress too. A lot of the Chinese stuff might look good when you are looking at it from far away. I think I can pretty confidently say that most of it is just cheaper ripoffs from Soviet/Russian technology and whatever they have reverse-engineered from Western stuff. I'm dubious how good they are in real life.
 
Yet another message from Pahlavi, seems he's quite busy today. He's namedropped the first royalist militia we now know of on Iran's ground: 'Immortal Guards' (Gard e-Javidan, also the nickname of his dad's old Imperial Guard). Mentions that they number several thousand strong & are organized into various cells across the country, acknowledges that they suffered losses on January 8-9 but commends their resilience in spite of some of their number having proven to be quite 'mortal' (which would also mean they've been active for months before the air campaign started), and commands them to further increase their anti-Islamist activity.

Pahlavi specifically mentions that they should continue to avoid street demonstrations for now but instead clear the path for such demonstrations in the near future (the big call for counter-revolution I'd imagine), meaning we should probably expect more sabotage & provision of intel on targets to blow up to Mossad/CIA agents and IDF/US military drone operators in the coming days & weeks. Ends his message by expressing his wish to stand with them in Iran's first liberated city. We know the IRGC was accusing these royalists of helping the Great & Little Satans blow up their checkpoints a few days ago, but this marks the first time in this entire war (AFAIK) that we can attribute a name, allegiance & numbers to the group(s) which are most likely to serve as the West's 'boots on the ground' in terms of spearheading regime change.
