The thing with Mem and the housing is that I actually could buy that some kind of "closer to slumlord than landlord" agreed to rent to her because who is renting to a single adult with no job and terrible credit (since she makes D leave the house for inspections meaning he's not on the lease)? They accepted first and last probably knowing that at some point she wouldn't be able to pay rent but at least they would have a tenant living in their middle of nowhere hovel and make some money off it. IMO that's the only explanation as to why anyone would a) rent to her in the first place and b) why they haven't evicted her for being constantly late on rent or the MULTIPLE utility shut offs that she constantly claims can result in "lease termination" and yet somehow never does. Or for trashing the house since they constantly have people in doing "repairs" that would have reported that to the landlord.

But that doesn't mean I feel bad for her, again they are 2 adults who need to fucking work like most people. Maybe if she hadn't decided grifting was the only way to pay her bills and had kept at least doing food delivery she would have been able to fix her car when she ran the stop sign and hit somebody. Maybe if she made her little boyfriend contribute in any way they also could have fixed it.

lol like that stopped her with the last car. Not even the expired license (x on only 5 months ago, which coincidentally meant it expiring a couple weeks after her accident). Legally there's basically nothing he can do. Mem isn't really disabled; she chooses to live this way and legally speaking, she's allowed to. There is info in the thread somewhere on dad's feelings about Mem and her choices. I know Mem claims that she has no contact with him because he's an abusive monster, but I suspect that he doesn't want to have contact with her either. I am willing to bet that he would gladly help her access mental health treatment if she decided she was done with her bullshit and ready to take steps toward living a normal life, but that would have to be her choice. He can't force her. He could report the trash pileup to local authorities, but there's little chance of that resulting in anything beyond a fine that never gets paid.
