I remember being on nighttime car rides and waiting for a streetlight to pass so I could move in Super Mario Land. Now if my PC monitor flickers under 10k hz I get a headache and I love sperging about shit like pixel perfection and motion blur. It’s a wonder looking back that we were content, impressed even, by those shitty screens

I never had that problem with this bad boy. We also had the family minivan set up with a 120V inverter, a small CRT, and our PS2 for long road trips. We would print out cheat codes and walkthroughs from GameFAQs. It was a race to save our games before my father shut the car off at the gas station or hotel.

Oh you were *fancy* fancy

Reminds me of when I got my PS2. My mom, bless her, didn’t know it needed a memory card, so I would just let the thing run all night and during school ‘till I came home. One power surge and all my progress in Final Fantasy X was gone :lossmanjack:

Same really except a generation earlier. Lots of road trips with Mario Land 2, Wario Land, DK '94, Kirby's Dream Land, Dr. Mario and Link's Awakening. I can't believe how much time I spent staring at that baby shit green colored screen.
Add Pokemon Red and Tetris to the list. I loved all of the same games.
I had that same Game Boy Color and worm light. I had so much fun with that.

I’d buy anything ModRetro over anything Analogue, because Analogue are basically the hardware equivalent of Limited Run Games, cranking out scalper bait with no regard for quality or timelines, while ModRetro is Palmer Luckey’s hobby company making the best products they can because he loves retro gaming and wants to keep it going for everyone.

The way Analogue handled the color variants for their N64 clone really shows their utter lack of respect for their customers.
That too, and I don't really give a shit about what else the guys who make this stuff do beyond whatever product I want, but I always find shit like that funny anyways because the same dorks going "HE'S A WAR MONGER" are exclusively using Microsoft and Apple products like Bill Gates wasn't Epstien's best buddy and Apple doesnt have to install nets to keep the workers in the factories from killing themselves on a daily basis lol.

is it a good product? that's what matters to me, it'd make you crazy if you only used things from concept to execution handled by people you agree with everything they do. You'd have nothing besides shit you made yourself from sticks and rocks. All I really give a shit about is product and support for it, and Analouge basically cucking their own products to sell their next ones is enough to turn me off. The Super NT, I got when it came out and like it but the fact they basically could have all these cores on all their devices but dont is lame.

Foxconn installs nets, not Apple, and the nets were on a facility making Lenovo products.

Pocket had a far better screen than the original GameBoy. Less smearing, more of a proper black pixel color than the spinach screen on the O.G. and better battery life would be the reasons I would go Pocket over original.
When it comes to the original monochrome handheld lineup, the Pocket is probably the best option for most people... or I would say that because it does have two things against it. The Pocket has the better screen (less smearing), and the smaller form factor is a partial win because it fits in my pocket better (hence the name!) but it did come at a cost.

The original "brick" form factor of the DMG units was genuinely good to hold, since it felt solid and felt not too far off from a NES controller. (fun fact: you can exchange the controller parts between an NES and Famicom controller and an original DMG) The Pocket is great, but the slightly smaller size does make it a bit more annoying to hold and do certain inputs with if your hands are pretty big. So I guess it's a tradeoff.

Additionally a small but often overlooked detail is the sound quality. You'll see LSDJ chiptuners bitching about this day in and out and I know most people probably don't care but I think it's worth mentioning. The Pocket has "worse" audio than the original Gameboy simply because it filters the audio too much causing songs to sound like they don't have a lot of bass to them. The Color models are arguably worse about it, though.

Also, since I'm referring to the entire original monochrome GB lineup, then the Pocket gets blown out of the water by the Japan only Gameboy Light. Because it's a Pocket but with that "indiglo" lighting that most watches would have (IIRC, it's called electroluminescence). The only downside there is that second-hand Light models are retarded expensive, with the cheapest ebay listings often starting at $120 with myriads of problems such as broken LCDs. But if you get your hands on one you basically have the best model on hand, as long as you don't care for the sound output. Hell, I'd take it over the Color in many cases simply because I can play it in the dark.

But that said my main complaint with basically any pre-Color model is the fact that the contrast between gray/green shades is fucking horrid. And for this reason is typically why "bivert" mods exist for the things. As much as I liked my time using a GB Light, no biverting meant that the screen didn't contrast as well as it should and applying a giant fuckoff greenish glow to it didn't exactly help.

Oh for sure (though I love me some chonky DMG form factor). For context, we were talking about GBC and Pocket
One reason is probably because without knowing button codes, GB titles on GBC kind of have this really shitty looking palette with red objects and green sprites. Pocket/DMG on the other hand are entirely in the grayscale realm.

edit: I forgot that a lot of the early launch titles actually have weird builtin palettes on the GBC
edit 2: spelling

(I meant to post the above much sooner but never got around to it)

Is the Chromatic worth it? I've read that it looks a lot better than the drop in screens, but it costs so much.
I've not used it but I heard it's really good. I think for most people it's good if you're just casually playing but hardware purists won't give a shit and I've heard about it having dubious compatibility with weird bootleg carts, so if that's your sort of thing I wouldn't suggest it on that front. But the best part about it IMO has to be the screen being really good out of the gate and not a hardware modfest to have a good screen. It also IMO blows the Analogue Pocket out of the water.

who gives a fuck? my point is people who care about shit like that are inconsistent and hypocritical with following the pipeline because go far enough up and probably every product has some sort of fucked up thing down the line, you dont need to white knight for apple on a post where it was a throwaway example. They're all (electronics and tech companies) probably objectively bad to their employees or something, alongside their customers.

Ah, so you're a commie faggot. Good to know.

Well, fuck, I guess I need a Pocket now
Get it. I remember it being such a nice upgrade of the original gameboy. Sleek, thin, fancy silver color, and a screen that was amazing compared to the old version. Unlike a slim PS2 and other such things the GB Pocket was something you held in your hands and looked at, so all the differences were very noticeable. These days it might not be anything special but it was back then.

If you actually wanted to know his politics, he's not exactly shy about them, you're just a retard who interprets any criticism of corporations as "no ethical consumption under capitalism"
what sucks about media stuff taken over by the woke or whatever, is it's not even like the negroes or the women who ruin it, its the fact they're the worst most insufferable of their kind.

your average black guy if he made a video game, comic book, movie, whatever; they want the same thing as everyone else, cool shit. But it's not that guy making it, it's some soft suburban bisexual brainwashed guy.

I don't smoke weed almost ever, probably twice a year
Okay, maybe he is a communist.

If there's one thing I enjoy the retro game thread being shit up with... it's politics.
