I was reading some where of a deep dive of the Muslim religion and how the only way to actually get forgiveness is to die for Jihad. It was in contrast to Catholics where there is a cycle of guilt, repent, forgiveness, and then make amends for any mistake/transgression. But for the Muslim there really isn't so this pressure just keeps building and building until the only way out so it die for the advancement of the religion. So you would have this seemingly moderate Muslims just go off the deep end at one point that for the Catholic mind just makes no sense.
