As far as I know SSRIs usually must be discontinued before psychedelic therapy. It's not exactly that serotonin syndrome is necessarily that big of a risk, psychedelic therapies just haven't yet been studied enough to even decide how much a therapeutic dose is, let alone what best practice is to manage potential drug interactions, As a result, most practitioners would rather err on the side of caution and not co-administer psychedelics and SSRIs at all, and are likely still doing active research on treatment efficacy of psychedelics alone anyway.

The most common issue, mostly anecdotally but with some research supporting it, is that SSRI's (and especially antipsychotics, but I don't think Staph is on any?) block the noticeable effects of psilocybin and some other psychedelics almost entirely. (I only remember offhand one study that concluded patients taking SSRIs don't react any differently to psilocybin than the control group, but mostly disregarded because it was shit). So there's a solid possibility that even chowing down on a massive recreational dose of big kid shrooms wouldn't do diddly shit anyway.

In reality, Staph is so fucking lame that she really only has one drug of choice:

A little late and a bit off topic but they will not make you stop your SSRI's if you give any pushback at all. That is roughly how it works with it blocking effects, it was explained to me like those neurons/pathways are already being used by other drugs, so especially a lower dose of another drug wont have as much wiggle room.

When its used right its an intensive several week course of therapy that wildly changes your core understanding of how to interact with the world, so they are often willing to 'push through' non perfect patients, because its likely their issues will be resolved in the course of the therapy.

Crucially however, and back on track, Staph will not change, Staph does not want to change. She is entirely content living this.. schlubby? lifestyle that she's wormed into. She is entirely fine living in filth, FAT, sleeping on a couch, rotating through doctors offices for various self inflicted maladies. She just wants to come across like the type of person who does drugs, but thats well tread ground here. I struggle to think she has a very rich inner life at all, so I do really wonder what she would get out of real drugs.

They almost always have you on an SSRI in tandem and don't generally care if you are doing anything else as long as it won't interact with the medicine and kill you, like benzos and meth.

It's psychological effect is like the opposite of hallucinogens (I believe it's classed as a hypnotic) where instead of seeing your ego shrink and become part of the whole rest of existence, it's like instead everything is pointing at you.
