Concord lost 400+ million dollars.
The investment into the studio and game (and its redevelopment) were total $400 million at a minimum. Game was in development for five years by Firewalk Studios and then SONY purchased the entire studio just for the game. They also purchased the Concord IP outright thinking it would be the next Star Wars or Halo. They also had to refund every single purchase of the game which is another loss.
I don't know how you can dismiss it as a reddit thing when Concord developers specifically credited a textbook toxically positive environment as being behind the asinine creative decisions, upper management's decision to push forward with a whole multimedia promotional campaign for the game, and how zero expectations were tempered from the poor initial pre-release reception of the game, leading to its immediate flop and the publisher intervening.
The fact that they thought that this game would lead to a Game of Thrones or Harry Potter level franchise is beyond hilarious.

has anyone mentioned The Culling yet? i had tons of fun with it when it first came out in 2016, the RPS melee mechanics were interesting even if they could never tune it quite right so people could cheese it. unfortunately in their rush to beat PUBG they made a lot of really bad design decisions as the game got progressively worse. they kept hinting at their Big House update that would fix everything, but when it finally came out all it added were a bunch of shitty skins you had to pay for and a really uninspired map. then it just kinda died after that.
until they decided to come out with the culling 2 which still holds the record for shortest live service game at less than a fucking day. it was an obvious PUBG knockoff that looked and played like shit. after that they disappeared for a while until they rereleased the culling again as it was on day 1 and as a F2P game, essentially starting from scratch. this saw a minor boost in players but not enough to make it profitable and that too also died. there was also some bullshit they tried to pull on the Xbox One version where you'd have to pay to join matches after your first one of the day. just endless retarded decisions.
there's a spiritual successor on steam that keeps most of the melee mechanics in but you're playing as mannequins in an abandoned mall but i haven't played it.

It was obviously a failure but I remember that there were some people who liked it (e.g., TotalBiscuit (RIP) I think). I remember their follow-up FPS Dirty Bomb
IMG_7575.jpeg

I remembered that the producers of Dirty Bomb actually separated from Nexon as a distributor.

And this doesn't count because the game is still playable, and still has a small and sweaty player base.

Does anyone remember this shit?

Going through the list more thoroughly.
your list is gay for mentioning mindseye, a singleplayer game...
concords are specifically meant to be live service "slop" games predicted to last as long as a fucking butterfly, DEI/Wokism kultur war optional but the main point is AAA devs being retarded or a skinwalker situation with a beloved studio doing a retard like bioware did with Anthem (which is also mentioned a couple of time in this thread), special mention to creatives being out of ideas on what to do and trying to cash in goodboy points with bluesky freaks, wasting a ton of bucks on a DOA project and being laughed at alongside any retard that supports these failed projects like when people mocked dorito pope for announcing highguard like some hot shit and now the team is killing it in literally 3 days (at the time of writing).

Wokism shit already has like three threads, one for the grifters regarding their gay kultur war, one for mods to remove said woke elements and the other for the games having woke elements on it or being fully woke like dustborn.

now i wonder how much time it will take for the AAA studios to course correct all these projects... these changes usually take years especially with how saturated the market is.

This was kind of like the right wing Concord :story:

They also apparently spent $400,000 on streamers/influencer campaigns but failed and had promptly laid off large parts of their staff.

I entirely agree with you that Mindseye on it's own is not a concord-like. It's also still one of the closest things in that entire list of everyone else's suggestions to qualifying, especially as a flagship presentation of Everywhere, which *is* intended to be a live service title. Like I said, the co-ceo is outright building conspiracy theories about corporate espionage rather than admitting he sucks at his job.

I had a whole rant this spurred on, but it's not the fault of any one person and the weather's too hot for top hats. But the number of people who have objected to something, called me an idiot, and then said something I have made exhaustingly clear I agree with in the OP is gettin' me real tilted.

Which was f2p. Didn’t play it much but I remember it being OK, much preferred Blacklight Retribution at the time.

Concord-like ought to be live-service and multiplayer, preferably a shooter. Woke art style and ridiculous budget are the other common traits. Other astronomically overhyped failures are TORtanics. Small, mostly singleplayer, wastes of taxpayer money to promote woke shit are Dustborns (though I’d prefer Forspokens for the memberberries, they were chucking those steelcases in the dump in Brazil or some shit).
i loved dirty bomb,
had one of the most fantastic shooting, character balance and TTK in any game ive ever played.

I've played this one. The idea to give players a portal gun on top of regular guns was super cool, what wasn't cool was them explicitly designing the maps in such a way that this gimmick was either impossible to use or downright pointless in most cases. They've had an actually interesting idea and then they've did everything they could to neuter and castrate it in what I suspect was an attempt to making it more "balanced" for the sake of e-sports. Not a Concord-like in my book but definitively tons of wasted potential.

Dirty Bomb is not a Concord-Like IMO. Sure, the game went underground past mid-2016, but it had lots of soul, and was very much alive and well for years until the full release of the game; every savvy FPS player instantly recommended the game, and thousands of players connected daily.

The TL;DR of DB's downfall is this: Nexon did a Nexon and mismanaged the fuck out of the game during its first years to the point development froze for over a year. Eventually, Splash Damage (the devs behind the game) got full ownership of the game, and started listening to the hordes of retarded Redditor glazers polluting discourse everywhere, and ruin the game by implementing retarded balancing decisions and character overhauls.

What (primarily) killed the game was the implementation of a broken SBMM system replacing server-browsing, the release of a character (Javelin) able to erase entire chokepoints and secondary objectives in barely 1.5 seconds every 27-30 seconds, and provide ammo to an entire team by just existing, and then overhauling the stealth character by having every downside to his invisibility removed (movement making you louder and more opaque) and then given an EMP on de-cloak, countering pretty much every core character of the game effortlessly.

Any pushback against those changes in forums were met with Splash Damage glazers gaslighting people into believing that those changes were good despite public games being unplayable both due to retarded balancing, the SBMM system making playing as a team painful, and scrim/competitive players having an 80%+ ban rate on Javelin. Outside of SBMM basically being scrapped outside of competitve mode (considered a meme by oldfags back then), none of those decisions were reversed.

The game wasn't born dead and gay: it died to Reeditniggers polluting feedback and gatekeeping a game their idiotic asses were killing.

EDIT: Typos, and added more things I forgot.

dirty bomb still playable, just 0 players for most of the time.

BLR was killed in favor of VtMB:2, it don't think it would ever be a concord either because it had it's niche players sustaining it.

call them idiots too, just because you gayed your list a little doesn't mean you can't ex-gay it, mindseye being a "live service" is on the same level as Far Cry:New Dawn being a live service, which means MTX, Skins and all of that gay shit you know but in singleplayer so yeah, you fell for corpospeak by trying to consider a singleplayer game "live service", also wokism shit faggots should just be told to pound sand, while devs being retarded is why some people call it concord, the annoying insufferable faggots of culture war shit try to make it about them, every single fucking time, at least in here you can call them faggots and tell them to kill themselves.

hell, if you want a game that started off with the ability to play SP and then became MP i have to point to Conan: Exiles, they even added gay battlepass shit and most of that stuff a pirate player cannot access because online server verification (you can't even play offline either because of the gay server checks, in older builds you can no problem), Oxygen Not Included did the exact same online gay check thing for some skins and both are marketed as singleplayer games, it's so fucking retarded because once the servers die all the content is gone, worse still is that there is zero mention of this fucking niggardy in their store pages, maybe you can stretch and say it's the 3rd party EULA shit but guess what, that shit don't work on certain countries and doing this niggardy is liable to take you to fucking court.

I remember the days when these sort of hero-shooter megaflops were called the "TF2 killers" of their time. Some of these older titles even marketed themselves as being the next big TF2, even Overwatch's marketing team made cheeky comments about being the game that would officially kill TF2.

Meanwhile TF2 is still chugging at around 30-50k people playing at any given time, though whether or not that count includes bots is anyone's fucking guess.

Keep in mind, that's 30-50k people still playing a nearly 20 year old game. The fact that all these bombs can't sustain that for a month is the most damning thing about current vidya...

New cope dropped.

"Stop speculating on the steam playercount as a litmus test for success otherwise you're a basement dwelling virgin" is a heck of an argument.

If other platforms had counts available, people would be watching those too. It's disingenuous to ignore the context of why people are paying active attention to live service numbers, it's not out of malice (at least not entirely). Like, I know we have brief news cycles, but did Highguard's crashing and burning already fade from their memory?

Reminds me of that Millennial Woes quote about how discourse with certain people is impossible, because so much of their arguments are predicated on them pretending not to understand things.
