oh, my apologies, the gay react was entirely appropriate. i'm sorry to hear you live in a shithole state with some of the worst traffic management in the entire union. it's sad that you can't take some ribbing, even though you definitely knew the whole 'trains in the US's major cities' thing was a button you'd get negative responses for pushing. it's something people have discussed many times before. it's not appropriate for the US to build lots of small inter-city trains. even the subway systems these cities attempt to build cost so much and bring in so little revenue that it's not worth it anymore.
even in NYC, one of the most famous subway systems of all time, the fares for the subways only cover about 25% of transit budget costs, and the other 75, the significant majority, comes from taxes, toll roads, and ad revenue, rent payments and other etc.
if you're familiar with mamdani, they actually just RAISED public transit prices again, because the expenses of public transit maintenance and continued service cost new york 21.3 billion USD per year to maintain. in what world can a random city like cincinnati, or denver, or boulder, or salt lake city, actually find it in their budget to spend BILLIONS on public transit like this? and those are MAJOR cities, imagine if you tried to pull this in a town with only like 50,000 people? it's just not feasible, and people don't care to take public transit, especially in a country where iryna was stabbed to death by a nog, and unless we chimped out significantly, he wouldn't have even gotten the minor punishments he has gotten.

anyone who hates driving was forced to do it for long periods from what i've found, most americans (myself included) love to be able to drive from one city to another for whatever they need to (not because they have to) and a 25 minute drive to another city isn't really a big deal, even a 40 minute drive from a small town to a big town is just the average grocery run. the moment europeans bring up trains you know they're just trying to get a sweet own on those damn americans.
I don't know why pro/anti-cars can't stop bringing american/european cities to try to prove their point. Our territories, our cities, and our ways to exploit it are too different to be copy-pasted from one place to another. In a place founded 2000 years ago, building large roads would need to destroy most of the city. On the opposite, a 100 years old american city with parallel roads don't need convoluted system to move people around.
i'm pro-car but why would i ever be trying to convince euros to use it? their cities aren't built for them, it's a disaster when they introduce cars to those ancient cities. i actually agree that europe shouldn't just go full car mode. people should use the transportation that makes sense for their area, which in a huge portion of the US is cars, and we built our cities around that. turns out tho, he's a californian. almost as bad as a european, if you ask me. really though past the political japing he's grown up in a place that has some of the worst traffic in the entire WORLD, so it makes sense why he'd think the solution is to slap down rails all over the state and make traffic even worse, while not being able to go anywhere but very specific stations.
