Reprogram an new robot into actively mocking his creator?
Considering he never did that and even in the first game he showed up in he was just trying to help by pointing out obvious shit. Of course he's gonna start mouthing off about him the more he does impulsive retard shit.

I kind of find it funny how his listed actual robot name is SA-55.

IDW Sonic has nothing to do. It doesn't have a central authority, places are like videogame levels than real locations, the plot doesn't matter because it's padding between games, etc. But hey, there's a lesbian couple!
It's padding between games yet the padding lacks connection to the games in any way. It starts off with the premise of it being a "forces sequel" but the games after forces went back to implying there's just normal people with normal societies instead of various string-bean player avatar not-sonics as the whole population of the world. MEANWHILE the comic seems to just be continuing the forces shit. There's such a distinct lack of people outside eggman. It's ridiculous.

It's like they're trying (badly) to be the more serious archie sonic from earlier penders but not full penders era insanity, while also doing supposed sega mandate shit of "sonic can't be shown in any point of weakness, lose, or cry" the games don't seem to have any kind of mandate on because we wouldn't get the "WOAH HE'S FASDTER THAN SONIC!!!" meme line in forces.

We still don't have a new name for Sonic's species since the 2000s.
It's his last name. Hedgehog. he's a hedgehog.

The two robot stooges are meant to be comic relief and to water down Eggman, as these two are unkillable due to comic relief plot armor.

Already said so here. It's a baffling decision, and inane unless the Mobians are uber-xenophobic and shoot on sight any human they spot within "their" islands.
Chances are that once the next game features humans shows up, they'll suddenly appear in the IDW comics, if it still exists by then. The question is how many sassy fem nigs will be around once that happens. I recall the post-reboot Archie SOnic comic having a random niggress GUN officer that stood out badly.

It's his last name. Hedgehog. he's a hedgehog.
No, that's his surname. I meant his species' name, like Mobian.

What you see is what you get, Just a guy who loves adventure. He's Sonic the Hedgehog.

I know it's weird because you got little normal animals sometimes like pele the beloved dog but that's likely never gonna be addressed.

All of this shit to explain why there were people in the games that called themselves humans and not the scifi bullshit of humans being called overlanders before this.
I find it extremely amusing that Archie decided to do this instead of coming up with a more reasonable explanation as to why humans are not present in this universe at first. The fact that an underground city is being introduced by a black character that could as well be Yakub is the cherry on top.

For all of SatAM and Archie's issues (pun aside), it had a core concept, and ultimately, that core worldbuilding was mashed into something completely different. Archie probably would've been better off rebooting the comic somehow in time for the Adventure era and give SatAM a proper ending in that regard. Obviously they couldn't, that'd piss off too many readers, but perhaps ending the comic at issue #50 as intended with Robotnik's death is as good as any to pretend SatAM concluded.
Archie would've been in much more different place if they had just decided or were let to continue building their universe around SatAM and adding stuff from the games in a way that made sense in their canon instead of hamfisting the things as soon as the most recent game was out.

I've seen a lot of fan comics that have made the Archie and game content crossover much more smoother than the official thing given that everything on those stories has the advantage of happening at its own pace instead having to keep up with a schedule. Shame that most of them also inherit the inconsistent and at times plain bad writing from the actual thing as well.
I know it's not game-related, but I really hope Metal gets to be an actual character in Sonic 4.
videoplayback.mp4

My nigga has been seen as a borderline personality-less jobber for so long I can't take it anymore
A lot of videos have popped up in my feed with James Spader as Metal because of his voice work as Ultron in the MCU. Tbf, I'm more of the idea Metal being mute or talking only in chirps when he's in his regular form, but I can see Spader fitting as Neo Metal quite well.
I now feel vindicated for not being the only one who thought the same about this.

They kind of wrote themselves into a corner similar to what pokémon did, where they originally implied that regular animals are still around but as time went on, they tried to bury that piece of lore ad nauseum.

No no, there were humans in archie before this. The little nigga morgan freeman is one from BEFORE they did sonic adventure stuff. They literally called them "overlanders" before this when archie was in it's serious business schizo swing but not at Sonic Adventure yet.

...There's also a never really fully explained witch themed on one of the characters from journey tot he west that basically has the ability the Zeti later have in lost world of just being able to hijack robots as slaves. In later archie comics she becomes Sniveley's GF/wife. Yes that snively. Like fromt he SATAM cartoon.

Jeeze, good thing I bailed out of the comics once they started getting weird with Knuckles & co. because I don't remember THAT particular issue.

In fact, now that I think about it, things started getting weird all around after Robotnik's death and resurrection into his """new""" form that lead to the Sonic Adventure tie-in special issues. That time travel issue where you had to read the comic backwards definitely threw my younger self for a loop.
To be clear, the "homeless and crying" cover is referring to this issue. He's not homeless, but he is crying, because Sally is being married to someone else. This issue's cover was apparently what caused Sega to begin pumping the brakes on exactly what Archie could or couldn't do with their IP, though the shit wouldn't hit the fan for them til Penders left (shortly thereafter this issue, interestingly enough), and subsequently did what he did. The rest is history.

Funny enough, homeless Sonic was indeed a thing in Archie, in the Flynn era no less. It's a long story, but in a future timeline Sonic is King of the Kingdom of Acorn alongside Sally, whom he marries. After some time travel shenanigans the timeline is rewritten, Sally is married off to Shadow who becomes a tyrannical king and Sonic and Sally's children are wiped from existence. Sonic, in this new timeline, having lost everything, lives like a bum until Tails and Knuckles (EDIT: Knuckles' daughter) catch up with him. Interestingly, the panels showing Sonic's emotional response to his current predicament were a part of this newfound control from Sega, as originally Sonic was drawn as bawling his eyes out at the state of things, which was changed to him merely tearing up. This is due to one of Sega's many mandates: Sonic can never cry, for any reason. Maybe because he was crying on that one cover art? Who knows.

Sorry for the long reply to a 2 week old post, but I had to share some top quality Archie autism knowledge.

Pardon me if I don't find this news shocking, considering this ho-ho has been cucking sonic since the beginning with people like Geoffrey St. John and Knuckles. Hell I think even Antoine was in on that at one point before they gave him Bunny permanently.
There was even the time they were baiting her and a chinese monkey expy for the Monkey King being paired together. During Flynn's time writing for the comic as well IIRC. If Archie was him at his best, I've got some questions.

People make fun of this all the time, but honestly, I understand why it would exist. Like first off, can you ever think of a time in the games when Sonic cried? Like you could say he's just never been in an appropriate situation for it, but that's partially the point. Sonic isn't really someone who breaks down crying on screen. He's a flighty drifter whose two prime motivations are doing extreme sports and dangerous jackass stunts for fun, and beating up dickheads because they piss him off. He's not someone who gets emotional over small things, he doesn't get into relationship drama, and if a villain does something major it's more likely to piss him off than make him cry. The closest I can think of is when Elise (and Eggman) appears to die in Sonic 06, he gets visibly distraught a for a little bit until Silver remembers he can time travel and proposes he help Sonic do that.

Basically, if Sonic is crying then that's way out of his usual character, and there needs to be a really good reason for it. And now look at the sort of shit being talked about in that post. Sonic crying because he got cucked by Sally. Or his kids from the future getting erased because he got cucked in the future. What's this fanfic soap opera bullshit? Like yeah, no wonder some guys at Sega paid more attention to what the comic guys are doing and wanted them cut that shit out, and if they're having trouble getting what the problem is, then it makes sense to just tell them no having Sonic sob onscreen to help force them in the right direction. (Of course, these comic writers will never really get it, because they fundamentally don't get the appeal of Sonic games. If they did, they wouldn't be spending so much time and energy on relationship drama.)

It's worth noting that the character bios in Sonic Jam note that one of Sonic's dislikes is tears. The only time I can remember any non-US media depicting Sonic crying was Sonic X, towards the end of season 2... over having to leave Chris Thorndyke and going back to his own world. Yeah, I think it's probably a fair point that Sega stopped doing that.

Supposedly, the arc about Shadow becoming a tyrant and stealing Sonic's woman was mandated by Sega (for what's worth, after Sonic goes back with Sally, they get better and have children). For extra hilarity, Shadow becomes genocidal after he was imprisoned.

Sega wants Sonic to be a force of nature more than a character, unlike Archie Sonic.

Amusingly, this is not Penders' fault. Sure, John was his OC avatar, but the bad future story wasn't his.

Hell I think even Antoine was in on that at one point before they gave him Bunny permanently.
That one comes from the SATAM cartoon, but he was treated like a joke because he was a forever coward French royalty stereotype. Americans sure hate royalty.

There was even the time they were baiting her and a chinese monkey expy for the Monkey King being paired together. During Flynn's time writing for the comic as well IIRC. If Archie was him at his best, I've got some questions.
All Flynn's fault. It was made to piss off Sally fans and waste time, because they pretty much flirt openly despite Sally's relationship with Sonic still being there, more or less.
That monkey was completely superfluous.
he doesn't get into relationship drama,
Poor Amy will be forever alone.

Of course, these comic writers will never really get it, because they fundamentally don't get the appeal of Sonic games. If they did, they wouldn't be spending so much time and energy on relationship drama.)
Now, almost all OC characters come with built-in drama instead, kek.

It was done at the insistence of the then-editor of the comic, not SEGA. If anything, this would probably be one of the reasons for Sega cracking down on the comic. I can sort of see Shadow deciding purging the world of the faithless working, but that's more in line with some of the alternate endings from the Shadow game, rather than where his character currently was at, in the comics.

There was also another alternate future with Lara-Su, where it's just a blatant mary-sue story that has very strong parallels with the Metal Virus story from the comics.

The bad future story, no. But a lot of other "sally cucks sonic" stories? Yes, that was likely him. I don't need to mention the time Penders said he wanted Geoffrey St. John to take Sally's virginity before Sonic could, or the issue where Evil Sonic (later Scourge) sleeps with Bunnie while pretending to be Sonic. Comic book marketed to kids btw. If this shit was done in the age of social media Sega would be in a shitstorm over it, look how big a deal people make some shit dialogue in IDW (and believe me, IDW does have some shit dialogue at times).

Was that the one with the evil Knucks having killed everyone and turned them into zombies? LS was indeed a Mary Sue, but to be fair the whole echidna nonsense was grating. Flynn's decision to kill off all Echidna was extreme, though.h

I don't need to mention the time Penders said he wanted Geoffrey St. John to take Sally's virginity before Sonic could,
Yep, and he had to take it back for obvious reasons.

or the issue where Evil Sonic (later Scourge) sleeps with Bunnie while pretending to be Sonic.
And then it turns out that this one cheated her by sleeping with another girl, so it was a double-cucking. The fucking slap started an hilarious circle of cuckery.

f this shit was done in the age of social media Sega would be in a shitstorm over it, look
Unfortunately, since the current writers are woke, they can do literal shit and nothing bad will happen, even if they show Sonic with tranny scars in their social media (which was a WTF moment for me).

how big a deal people make some shit dialogue in IDW (and believe me, IDW does have some shit dialogue at times).
See above. Fortunately, IDW's days are numbered and when that Sonic comic dies, we'll see what is done next. Maybe Flynn will retire?

Flynn's decision to kill off all Echidna was extreme, though.
Flynn only killed off all the echidnas because the Penders lawsuit was happening. The story arc where this happened was gonna involve the echidnas and their society much more in depth, but right around that time the orders came down from the top to fuck off all of Penders/Bollers/etc. characters and prepare for the reboot, thus they unceremoniously got trapped in another dimension and then all of time and space was rewritten through the Mega Man crossover.
